Some of our elders grew up in a time more honest than ours. It's a matter of volume. Try enough scams and someone will bite. I've had to talk my Dad out of driving for 12 hours ti buy a tractor similar to this

I wouldn't say a lack of a phone number and that the CL reply email means it's a scam. I don't just give out my email or phone number on CL until I can weed out the weeds. I know many people that do the same. Now you know it's a scam when this tractor would be $1000 and sometimes an email in the picture. Then you'll see this same item for sale around the country. Other tip offs are mountains where there's no mountains by you, or palm trees up north.

    Too true.

    Scammers go by volume.
If 1% respond out of 1 million eyes, that's still 10,000 responses.

1% of that still nets 100 fish.

No harm in checking, but it's always best if you can see the equipment and the seller.

Right, I agree. As I said above, you have to add all the clues up in the ad and make a judgement call on if it smells fishy, or not.
I have noticed that the scam ads are getting a little harder to spot recently...I used to be able to scroll down through CL and just flag ads left and right...now some are hard to say for sure without calling/emailing...

On the other side of "the coin"

I feel bad for legitimate sellers that are constantly bombarded with BS inquiries that will amount to a "no show" at best.

When I contacted the guy selling the BX25D on FB.. I had to use Chazsbetterhalf acct as I wasn't on FB.

She was texting him while someone was supposed to show up and look at the tractor.

He didn't, so he said if we were serious, he's give us first shot at it. We took $2K in cash as a down payment, and drew up a contract while there.

Not the "Deal of a lifetime", but I'm quite happy with the outcome.
    :)

There is a scam that my friend saw on CL; on a nice van. I even asked for them to email me the title with the VIN number and he did; although the VIN was bogus. I told my friend it was a scam.

I'm not certain how this tractor applies to the OP question.

Apples n oranges.. Which given the color schemes, does apply.

Overall, with no attachments, I've not looked at what a L3301 costs. But I don't think the Rural King tractor price is equivalent here.

What I was saying is to look at tractors in a similar category to gain an understanding of what is a good price and what is not.

Plus looking at a tractor with a loader/fork etc already a part of the package instead of adding it later.

This is a really funny comedy bit on when someone turns the tables on internet scammers...
