With the warmer weather and the rain moving in the brook should fill up real quick, I'll get a new picture late Thursday or Friday. We still have a good amount of snow in certain areas in the woods, hopefully this melt with the rain will open it up so I can start cutting.
The brook looks really nice in that pic! I vote yes and yes......... brook will rise, cutting will commence. Our wet weather will be thurs, poss storms, then quite chilly again.
I'm ready to get cutting, just need mother nature to do the rest. I'm sure some of the west facing hills will be clear of snow. Today we pushed some Cherry in, we wanted it in before the rains so we have just over one face cord of Cherry left (outside) with two face of Pine & Hemlock left that we had planned on burning. The Maple Syrup looks good.
The ice sucks, when we were in Lake Placid NY watching the ECAC Men's Hockey Championship, it changed from snow over to rain then the temps dropped to -3 the roads were like ice.
I just ran across this vid of a slick old water wheel station generating power. I thought of your brook thewoodlands ... any chance you're close enough to your house and have enough land slope along the brook to do this? This rig in the vid is pretty well thought out and built to last. Looks as tho it's got some real power capability. "Free" power... 24/7. Tho I'm not sure if it could be designed better for icy temps.
That would never happen in NYS, unless you have enough money to line someones pocket. My old hometown payed millions to see if they could build a power producing dam on the Grasse River, they turned them down.
They really backed off on the rain totals here for tomorrow so the brook should be ok. Yes it is, the spring or when we get some real heavy rains turn the Brook into a dangerous area, the sound of the rushing water is nice to hear.
Looking forward to the ice dam videos from NH this spring. When the rains come and the ice begins to break up it creates come cool looking surges on the rivers. Some of the bridges even become at risk because of this, they use dynamite when its really bad.
It's snowed most of the day (still snowing) but with the lower temps coming in higher, it's just a matter of time we lose the white stuff.
They have certain rivers in St.Lawrence County that do the same, the rivers I've seen look like they'll be fine.
