Reminded me of two movies: Lol. And I can relate T.Jeff Veal , I can't stand when every other word out of someone's mouth is "like". When I hear it, I mock it (watching TV or the similar) and it drives my daughter crazy. Hopefully it's driving the point across to everyone in range. Seems to as I don't hear it real often.
Totally! (another valley girl word). I literally find myself counting how many times someone uses "like" in a conversation - very distracting. I understand the need for a word like "like" to indicate uncertainty but its way overused.
I find the "like" button useful. It is a quick way to agree with a post, without adding useless junk posts. I miss it on a couple of other forums I participate in.
I agree Dennis. "Like" is sort of if the tree falls in the woods, and nobody hears it, did it make a noise. to "like" a post isn't necessarily to really like it, it is rather an indication of who heard the tree fall. Remove the like option and you will never know if the fallen tree made any noise. I liken it to a gesturing of acknowledgement by those sitting around having a chat.
Good analogy...another example would be people that have to speak in front of a group...I'm told since “The Bug” started, people that have to give a presentation to a group are finding it difficult to do in front of a laptop, with no feedback from the audience...I'm no speaker, but I can see how that would be hard!
I really like the idea of liking a post out of courtesy as a way of acknowledging that it was read. Maybe a F.U. button is needed to respond to posts that have no place being posted in the first place.
Ok here is the way I see it. You can go up to your name and then go to like preferences. You have the option of turning off the likes for your msgs. But you will still get alerts when somebody starts a tread, post a thread, etc. For those who likes them, they can leave it turned on. To me that is a win for everybody.
