From spring through the summer months I've been crazy busy with softball and the family. Summer is just about over, and fall softball has started up. However; I'm taking time to visit the site a couple of times a day. I must say reading the posts here lifts my spirits. I might not be as woodsy as I'd like to be, but the forum and the people on here are down to earth good people. As the weather starts to turn cooler, I've started to make plans to get ready to start cutting, and preparing for the heating season. Yeah I don't have anything built up for my three year plan. However; this is the fall that my son and I will start making a dent into this plan. I am planning on two more truck loads this fall before the weather turns to snow, fingers crossed for snow. Yeah I might not get that far, but a plan is a start in the right direction. Jason from RI.

My son is a great helper when bucking and splitting wood. Unfortunately he does work every Saturday until the middle of October. After that, he'll be free to help. My plan is to get everything prepped on Saturday afternoons starting this weekend. Once I have that done, I'll start on my own, and he can jump in when his summer job comes to an end.
This weekend, I need to design and start building a storage solution for the front yard. Personally I like to cover the wood typically. However; I am looking more for function over form on this one. Here is what I have in my head: I consume roughly 3-4 cord each year. I personally like to have my wood 1' off the ground to allow for air flow to get underneath the storage and assist in drying the wood. I could forgo the massive structure I have in my mind and simply use pallets on the ground to create 16' long and 10' wide. This would cut down on the overall height. Though I could do something different on the ends to create the 6 or 8' of height I have in mind. I seen many of you use pallets to create a basic storage unit at little cost. I am pretty sure I could go three pallets wide and cover the 16'. How would I divide the space into a three year plan?

Yeah, it's that time of the year. Spending time in the woods is a good thing. I too will be getting ahead this fall, finally, not just keeping good for the next heating season.
