Little bit of a scare w/ Roscoe today. Left him home while I helped my son build a workbench. Typically no problem leaving home for 5-6 hours and we weren’t gone near that. Being a lover of things leather, :headbang: he decided to eat one brand new WellsLamont size large leather glove that was laying in the center of our dining room table. Call to the vet, they told me to put a couple gluggs of hydrogen peroxide in water and have him drink it so he vomits up the glove. Ended up using the Turkey baster to aid that, but it worked. Glove was in 2 pieces, large one was almost full size. :picard: “Helped” him drink water till he quit puking it back up in an effort to rinse the peroxide. Seems to be doing just fine now.

Can’t help but think that could have been much different, thankful it wasn’t.

The wrist strap was laying on the floor next to a wad of drool for lack of a better word. He didn’t puke but I’m guessing he gagged a bunch, maybe getting it swallowed?
Looks like he chewed the cuff off. All the fingers and thumb were still one piece. Big dummy. :hair:

There are quite a few for, here is one for large dogs and here are more offerings. Although I'm sure you would need to make sure of the measurements to ensure it is the right size for the dog.

Originally I went to my local stores, TSC and Aubuchon's, but they had absolutely nothing (literally noo dog or cat houses), so I turned to the interwebz. Google was my friend as I was researching - as were checking all the specs and reading the reviews. Be careful as some will say waterproof when what they really mean is resistant. Some will say "heated" even though what they mean is insulated. I don't have any outdoor outlets, nor do I want to run an extension cord across the yard (first use of the snow blower would make that short lived), so I was only looking for insulated. Still others looked like they would not hold up under any type of snow load.

I've also seen some reviews say that even when called an insulated house, there was no insulation. Others were insulated but the layers were fir/foam/fir, which I wasn't keen on. Others are with "sponge" as an insulation without a covering and I was afraid that the insulation would draw water and stay wet. I studied all the pictures for the ones I was interested in as they would describe the way the insulation is presented. At least one cat house was marked off my list as it had a review that said there were so many gaps that the wind would easily infiltrate.

Going thru all the reviews and different styles I realized I didn't just want a small doghouse. I had used one of those at my previous place for our indoor/outdoor cats and it worked fine sitting on the deck (and seriously, it is in use today as a 20# propane tank holder to keep it out of the sun/weather and out of sight from people passing by). I then came up with a list of what the final pick must have:
    • Sturdy (of course) although being an on-line buy I had to go by the sense that I got from reviews and material list.
    • Insulation style: The one I picked has the insulation package separate from the cat house and has a covering over the "sponge" that can be removed and washed. It should also help stop wind from any gaps in the house itself (if there should be any).
    • An "escape" window, which was an excellent bonus that I never thought of. And then one should think about the placement of the escape window that would work for their situation.
    • A hinged roof for cleaning access
    • Type of roof covering (asphalt, metal, plastic etc)
    • An overhang for the door
    • There was also one I liked that had a divider between the door portion and the main area which would help keep out wind from the sleeping chambers, but in the end that did not make the list of must haves (and there were other considerations for my particular case that I decided against it).

Oh, that could have been really bad. Glad you were able to catch it before it became an issue. And bonus that the treatment was using cheap household stuff.

We got another permanent dog today, Gibby. We raised him as pup to be a guide dog. He went back about 18 months ago to be trained but his career took a different turn when he was selected to be a stud in their breeding program. 10 plus litters later he has been retired and given back to us as a pet. He is the black lab’s daddy. So we will now have three dogs till late summer when the black one will leave to be trained. Garcia and Gibby are getting along pretty well. Lots of exercise this afternoon seemed to settle them in.

Poor doggie, he took out and looked over a rifle and went to a neighbors house for shooting. She's 1/2 sad and 1/2 irked.

The Wood Wolverine Glad you caught Roscoe and him to spit that up. Our Lab, Hayden has eaten a couple socks, and hair scrunchies. Fortunately he's a pro at puking then up on his own. But we know to not leave those on the ground. He hasn't done it in a while, which is a good thing. Now he's 3 going on 4 years old in March, I think he's growing out of that weird habit. He will still wait for a sock to fall out of a pair of pants. Hell pick it up, but let's go right away. Goofball

Our doggie (smaller than Hayden) was really bad about kiddo's little socks and hair scrunchies. She's trained not to go in that side of the house by kids bedroom and now kiddo is old enough not to leave/lose socks and scrunchies out here. Phew, she was good and bringing them up herself too.

I've got the kitty feeding up on the back porch and a cardboard box with a pillow in it for him temporarily. The cat house I ordered should be here today. It should fit where I have a sitting bench on the porch (will have to move that out - but I'm not using it now anyway). Pics are from 12/30/23, before I was able to entice him to the porch. He got an extra treat that morning as the indoor cats didn't quite finish their wet food treat that morning (a flavor they aren't enthused about).

Yesterday he nearly followed me int the back door. That would be bad with my other two cats, so had to shove him away. Just ordered (literally) a tall cat gate that supposedly will be here today. It may not make it, which is fine. I'd have to put the cat gate in the doorway between the kitchen and living room and close the office door. Then he would have access to basement and kitchen while doing cat intros. Will be a PITA since Spot usually eats her wet food in the kitchen (kibble is in the living room) and the cat boxes are downstairs. additionally, it will disturb the air flow from the heating systems. But I can make it work. Will help if he goes outdoors during the day and then just comes in at night.

bogieb Once he is eating regularly, he will be a lovely looking cat. Mom's favourite colour of cat is orange. Her last orange cat was almost feral. He adopted her and then brought a friend home one day. Unfortunately he died as he was a ratter and someone in the neighbourhood was poisoning rats.

I am waiting to see pics of the outdoor house when it arrives.

Super Max is not happy. She ripped her pad rabbit and grouse hunting. Not impressed being socked up.

Daisy full fat cottage cheese, oh yeah! I really don’t like other brands any more. Marie is not so picky.
