Years ago, we used 2 E-collars with our 2 huskies. If you're familiar with the breed, you know they can be very head strong and tough to "trust", off leash. Cats, squirrels, other dogs, deer, skunks, porcupines, etc... can be impossible for them to resist chasing. Had Tekayo, on leash, at the top of our field, at the old farm... and down at the bottom of the 1800' field, deer would always feed in the early evening. Tek would vibrate when she saw them... that far away. It was nuts. When we started E-collar training, after around 2 weeks, I walked to the top of the field with Tek again. This time, I had the E-collar set on high. When she saw the deer, and knew she wasn't on leash... she took off down the field like her azz was on fire... I let her get about 50 yards down, and gave her the max "attitude adjustment"... you'd have thought she was coming in to home plate out of control as she slid to a stop. I didn't say a word. She looked up at me, and down at them (they'd clearly just caused that uncomfortable buzz... somehow), then slowly walked back up to me and sat down. We walked out there every evening for 4-5 days. The deer would always show up. Tek never needed a "deer" correction again. She never showed the slightest interest.

Both of our huskies had been freed from the leash, and had so much more fun exploring their worlds after we found E-collars and I'm sure they are a lot better now. Highly recommend them for training.

I've been pricing out gps + e collars and they aren't cheap! To get a system and add a collar would be over 1k! o_O

I'll probably stick with just an e collar for Birch and see how it goes. GP often wander/ chase off a property.

I greatly appreciate the discussion/feedback! Roscoe was trained with a "shock" collar and listens with the audible tones and occasional vibration. My biggest concern is the real time quickness of the app showing location. Hoping to make a decision for a black friday deal.

    He was snoring a little.

The Fi collars have become more expensive with the updated series 3 devices. I have a series 2 which was $80 plus $99/year service. With the series 3 devices they went to a pure subscription sales model at $192/year with no upfront device purchase. I’m not upgrading the one on my pup.

Note that the Fi collars are almost always on sale, don’t make a quick decision if you are at all leaning in that direction.

We put in a Invisible Fence about 10 -12 years ago. It was around 3500.00 back then for our yard which is about 1-1/4 acres. Best investment for dog control for us.

Those dogs in the high country blow my mind. The huge range they cover and still protect the flock. WWW talked to a sheepherder once that said he only checks on them every couple weeks (the flock). I wonder how those dogs are trained?

Thanks! Hand are certainly full at this age!

So many opportunities when outside that I don't have the phone!

Many of my friends have them. Some of these puppies are staying with the breeder a month longer for more farm guardian experience. Otherwise, this all comes naturally to them. Many stay outside in what we humans would think is a harsh environment, blowing deep snow, -30°F below, but it does not phase these breeds.

He's very handsome! The sport dog e collar is pretty rugged and I agree with how well they work.

I reached out to sportdog yesterday asking how I can use my existing ecollar with my Chessy, and add a collar. It's quite simple messing with the internal settings.
