Our neighbour just got himself a new scooter so he can zip downtown and have coffee with the guys. His two fur kids go with him. I thought you would enjoy these pictures.

The two look very comfortable in their bed.

If the hair was matted, they had to shave him way down. Leaving hair at the tip of the tail provides protection from getting split by banging into things - that skin is not used to being in direct contact with surfaces. Can also soften the blow to people that get "whipped" with it when the pup gets excited. But once Riley's hair starts coming in nicely, and staying unmatted, they can certainly make it more even and not have the pom-pom effect.

You are right - that standard poodle frame with the Schnauzer hair does make him look like a wolfhound. Me thinkgs that pup is going to take regular grooming to keep his coat in good shape.

I don't think his new pup will shed. Poodles don't shed as I recall.

Dave's right, my first thought was grooming gloves aren't going to do much

Poodles don't shed, but their hair grows long and curls/kinks and mats up - thus the grooming needs.

I will let the groomers shape his body hair. He needs to put some weight back on. His bones stick out everywhere wherever you pet him. Feels like petting a skeleton. I have lots of dog brushes. Many kinds. I'll consult with the groomer to make sure I am doing it right. So far, things are going well for us. He sits still for me to hook the leash. He jumps into the car and goes to a vacant seat that isn't the driver's seat. Rides well. Likes to look out but doesn't barked when he sees another dog. Best part is he like to sit by either Cindy or me. He jumps up in bed and knows to go to the foot of the bed. He gets along well with the cats. Just need to overcome the aggressive behavior of my son's Husky.

Right on! I'm no fan of that poodle hold over look. That trim is something of a hold over from when poodles had their tails cut short. My intention is that the hair of his tail will be the same length or tapered, but not a pom pom. His body favors the schnauzer side. He is very mild mannered. I can reach right into his mouth and take something out with no objections from him.

The vet who did the neutering had Riley on Trazadone 100mg, twice daily. 44 lb dog! No way would I continue with that. A 100 mg tab given to an adult male is enough to make him go to sleep. Most vets don't prescribe that after neutering. He is on doxycycline 200mg every day. The vet had that one scheduled at night. Treatment for being positive for Lyme disease That raises hell with the gut. Should be given with food and a probiotic. (probiotic helps to prevent diarrhea brought on by the antibiotic. I adjusts the dose of the probiotic according to the results, (formed stools) He hated having diarrhea. I also want to make him some rice and chicken.

Lots of dogs out there needing homes. I consider myself very fortunate to have found a dog without a lot of neurotic behaviors that needed to be overcome. This one is adult and has gone through that puppy stage of things, plus he is house trained. I just had to learn his signals that he needs to go out. Lucky for me, he waits in the morning so I don't have to rush.
