    Sorry for your loss.
    Very hard to deal with.

As others have said look back at all the good times you had together.
Rest Frank. Everyone will remember you for being the friend you were.

It does pass ; sort of but you won't forget them. They will always be in your thoughts.

As much as I like this thread it still touches my heart and still hard to grasp ; the love everyone has for something that some people just think is an animal is beyond anything that can be put into words.
Not the case at all , not even close.
They are family and and best friends that words can't describe.

Question for all you pet owners. We have all been in this situation one time or another. Cricket has discovered I have been hiding pills in her bananas especially the one she really dislikes. I hate using food for meds as I think it turns them off the food. My technique is not great for getting a plain pill down the throat. Has anyone any suggestions? I would use peanut butter but because of the liver and pancreas problem, it has to be no or low fat and low acid. She may be small but she is still feisty!

Unfortunately, it is either use food to hide it in or coerce them to take the meds. Unless that med can be custom made with flavoring (which they may eat willingly a couple of times, then start refusing them again).

I just remembered another method - Greenies makes "pill pockets" which are like Greenie treats, but softer and with a void in the middle (stuff the pill in there, then pinch the void edges together so the pill won't squirt out if they actually chew instead of just swallow it whole). Don't know if those are low fat though.

Thanks for the suggestion about the Greenies. I think we will be doing meds for a while so I will have a look for them.

My mother used to use Kraft Singles, pressed the cheese around it.

Well, campinspecter saw a gizmo online for getting pills down the throat of a dog. Our vet had one so we made a trip down and got it. Peanut Buster Parfait was my Mother's Day treat as a result. We got home and it works quite well for the larger pills. It will take a bit of getting used to though. It is plunger syringe that holds the pills in the tip. Open mouth (it takes two of us) and insert to the back of the throat and hit the plunger. If we get her mouth closed fast enough, she doesn't grind it up in her back teeth.

I like the cheese and hot dog ideas but she is on a low or no fat diet. White protein such as chicken, white fish and rice or potatoes or eggs. I also have low fat dog food tins. Very strict diet for awhile. Bananas are her treats.

Update on the pill problem. The pet piller worked a few times and then Cricket decided that getting the pills in her banana treats is much better. Right now we are on a roll with success. I hope it continues.

You know, there is a little tool you can use if the banana trick stops working again. I've used it on cats before and little dogs, like a syringe but a rubber grippy that opens up and drops pill in the back of their throat. Like he said, hold her mouth shut with her nose to ceiling and gently stroke throat to induce a swallow, also a few drops of water (I just dipped my fingers in a glass and let it drop and quickly shut mouth again if they did not swallow with throat stroking.

I was also thinking about bananas, Blackie had kidney troubles and despite the Rx food we gave him was still low on potassium, he became a banana lover towards the end, that said I hope potassium is okay or good for liver issues, I don't know.

We did get the pill syringe and used it a couple of times. Fortunately Cricket went back to accepting pills in her bananas so we went back to that. The vet seemed to think Cricket's love of bananas a very good thing especially as she has been drinking so much more water than normal.
