Sorry for your loss ,I find that time is the only cure for the loss of a family member . We lost the little red guy to a cougar in our back yard about 4 years ago and still miss him !
Sorry Eric , Yes it is hard , unfortunately this is part of it when we sign up for having them and I know where you are coming from. It is not an easy thing sometimes. Look at the past and remember all the good times that you had together and keep those in your thoughts.
I am sorry for your loss. Even when we have had months to come to grips with it, the reality hits us hard. Unfortunately there are no shortcuts to the grieving process. It will take a while to get to where your mind gets out of the habit of looking for your pup in the usual haunts. They are never "just" a dog or cat (or whatever animal), they are part of our families and well loved, and will always be missed.
Eric Schamell sorry for you loss, no tips. We are having a few drinks watching sunset discussing ones that have passed 10 plus years ago. Seeing traits of this one and that one in 12 week old puppy. Still miss them but fond memories live on..
It's horrible. That's all I can say. Did it about a year ago with my then youngest lab William. Totally freak thing. Had no real choice as it was what was best for him. It pains me a great deal, because he wasn't even 4 yrs old. He had kidney failure, some freak thing. My oldest lab now, Badger, was diagnosed with cancer 7 months ago and given 3-6 months to live. Well, he saw his 11th birthday, and he went from the happy go lucky retrieve all day lab, to not retrieve 2 days in a row today. That's his deal. Retrieving. To have Badger not wanting to retrieve is not having Badger. We take him in on Monday after work to cross the rainbow bridge. We've known this day was impending, that still doesn't help. I lost my dad a couple of years ago to ALS. Having to put William down at under 4 yrs old was worse than losing my Dad, and Dad and I had a great relationship. This is still going to suck, but it's not about us. It gets better with time. But you'll be reminded from time to time. I hope this helps.
Horkn , may you find peace in knowing you gave him a good life and gave him ease and dignity at the end.
Horkin , so sorry to read this. I still remember reading your post a year ago , now this. At a loss for words once again. Just saw the 11th birthday pictures. Will keep you in my thoughts.
Very sorry to read about your pup Eric Schamell ... our co-pilots leave a mighty big hole in our lives when it's their turn to go. Last fall, when our vet told us Giz's liver was in total failure (after a few months of not doing well)... we just weren't expecting it. We lost it too. After she was gone, we swore we'd never go through it again, after 4 dogs. Never. That lasted 5 weeks... Buddy popped up and has been ruling the roost ever since. I like to think Giz sent him...
Sorry for your loss Eric. She will be your heart forever. Remember the good times with her. Go for a walk and talk to. After all she was family.
Thank you all for the kind words. A big part of me never wants to feel this again, but at the same time all those years of unconditional love were well worth the grief I carry now. I know in time it will fade, I’ll heal emotionally and eventually welcome another dog home to be part of our family. I’m sorry to hear about the loss of your dog and father too, Horkn It seems no matter how long someone is in your life, it’s never long enough. Things like this make us all hug the ones we still have just a little longer.
Don't usually see Spot and Rita cozied up, but a couple of nights ago, they were like this Rita sleeps with her nose balancing her head on a regular basis
To my fellow Dog Lovers out there, a friend in the Police world, (good dear friend of mine) sent me these so I had to share. He has a retired K-9, 12 years old and only a select few people can get near him, let alone come in the house. I'm one of those privledged few. Buddy doesn't play well with other's! He's exactly like the first picture Enjoy.
Several months ago I ran over my cats back leg. It broke it two places and the quote was $3K-$5K to set and pin it. I thought I was going to have to put him down or amputate his leg. The vet told me that cats have a way of working things out. Just wait and see how he does. He walks with a slight limp but is back to climbing trees, playing with the other cat and he brought in a squirrel the other day. I guess he is down to 8 lives now.
