Found another deer tick today. This one was on Holly above her eye. The red color stood out on her brown fur.

This is not going to be a good year.

We were at our son's house Saturday, working in his woods, he had a tick crawling up his leg. My wife left the woods...lol

Now that Buddy has finally chilled out, his coughing and choking (collapsing trachea) is 60-70% less than when he arrived last fall. He doesn't even move from thunder or gun shots... and, we're just fine with that...

Another deer tick on Holly today. I saw a nature show years ago about ticks. The biologists tied a pillowcase to a stick and walked around a field edge and the ticks clung to it. I made one with a piece of t shirt and zip tied it to a stick. I went around the yard and stopped every 10 feet and checked it.

The worst place was a brush pile that Holly pokes around in. Here is the result in about a half hour:

    20210330_175210.jpg

5 deer ticks and 4 wood ticks. The rest of the yard was good. I did not go in the woods as there are a lot of deer trails and we don't go in there.

I'll try the tick drag every day and see how it goes. All I can think of is that there are rabbits in the brush pile and the ticks are there for an easy meal. The pile is going to get burned hopefully this weekend. I have to break it down to smaller piles for the FD to ok it.

We have a few around. I read about a study that biologist examined the stomach contents of roadkill possum and they had a lot of ticks in them. Possum are constantly cleaning themselves and eating the ticks that attach on them. Pretty fascinating.

Yep. 1 year old for Hayden, we got him in mid May last year.

Now today is Badger's 11th birthday.
    20210330_190507(1).jpg

My wife made another birthday cake for Badger. So they each had their own cakes.

Dog toys and a mini easter egg hunt.

On Easter, our dogs have always had an Easter egg hunt. Plastic eggs with dog treats in them.

Beautiful pups who have good decorating sense - the colors of their furniture set of their coat colors and patterns nicely.

Any tips for coping with the loss of a dog? I just put my shepherd/mastiff mix down yesterday. It was a decision I came to months ago with my wife but one that I had been putting off. I didn't fully anticipate this absolutely massive sorrow coming. Everything at home reminds me of her. Yesterday was hard. I thought I woke up ready to face the day, but when I lit the stove this morning and remembered I wouldn't be seeing her sprawled out in front of it, I lost it again. Thanks for listening.

I'm so sorry Eric, they are part of the family. I've been missing my last two from last summer, still getting deep aches sometimes now missing them. Almost everyone I've known loses it too, especially the first few days, I thought that part of working through the grief.
