FAIL on trapping the cat with a black tail. We've had the trap open, food in there for awhile, both him and his (sister? mother?) go in there and eat. Set the trap last night with him here but no sister. 10pm, (sister ? mother ?)is in the trap. Let her out, he reset the trap this morning, black tail came, I looked a 1/2 hour later, trap closed, not black tail , he's not been back since, and she won't go in either.

Guess we need to see if hunger overpowers? Ideas? He does not respond to sardines or people food.

Loon, I’m late to saying goodbye to Emma... I apologize for that- my heart is heavy for you. :tears:
May she be resting from her stay among us, but alive and running about on the next level of her travels.
There will be a day when you can give her a hug and some scratching behind the ears.
We all want for that day for our fur pals who go before us.

The cats came back yesterday. They are currently begging at the sliding glass door. Set the trap again with him here and the sister(?) no where in sight. 2 hours later caught Momma cat -again-. Interesting, let her out, and she slept on the patio chair for awhile. Black Tail showed up, bloody arms and cuts on his face, tufts of fur half pulled out, but he will not approach the trap where the cat food is. Talked with both WWW and kiddo, agreement from them that both cats go. That is *if* we ever trap Black Tail.

I cannot help but wonder why Momma is ok with humans but he is so skeptical (there is not doubt they are related, very unusual & identical voices, as well as size, and they are affectionate to eachother). How in the world did they end up out here? Same with our wildcat Lila we tried to take in (yes, she is a pampered wildcat, private microchip door to garage with heated pad and food/water). I can understand some Jack Assparagus dumping our Blackie dog where we lived before, lake/pond, lush pastures and mountains all within a square mile. But do dump a cat ---out here----?!?!?

OMG OMG HE IS FINALLY TRAPPED!!!!!!!!!!! Like 2+ years of different attempts.

Pfffft, of course on a Friday night so he won't be treated til Monday  Guess we'll keep him in the trap til then. Uggg, best seems to put him in the Barn Cat Program along with his twin Momma cat too, they are tied at the hip to eachother, but they are not taking any for an indefinate period. I found out tonight the Barn Cat Program is closed for atleast the next couple months, they had a FeLuke out break :headbang: The rescue league will fix him up and neuter etc. if it's within reason, but will not take him. And, WWW does not want him back, I understand that, it's really hard to see an animal suffer. IDK.

Black Tail cat still in crate on porch, he's not saying much so not as hard on him as I thought it might be  He'll get to the vet Mon am when they open (rescue league vet), he's coming back here afterwards since the Barn Cat Program is down. WWW offered to take him to his work shop, but there are trains and busy streets, more importantly other stray cats much bigger than him. Black tail is no spring chicken and this desolate peninsula is all he's known for atleast 5-7 years according to one neighbor (I might guess longer).

Tonight Peaches poodle puppy pulled a glass bottle of olive oil off the counter, it broke, she licked it all up by the time Blackie dog did his nervous tattle tale to me to go see. Peaches had a bloody mouth. I picked up the glass, she licked the blood off her mouth, then an hour or two later she vomited a pile of dark red. Called our vet, on call doc said give her bread to bind any shards if she did swallow them and watch her. She said glass does not show up on xrays. Cross your fingers with me friends that either that was coagulated blood/olive oil the vomited, that she did not swallow an pieces of glass, or that the bread binds it if she did swallow some and it passes easily. Thanks

Very sad news. Black Tail wildcat died, he did not wake up from anesthesia. Vet said every one of his fangs was broken and worn poor guy. RIP poor little soul dumped in this unforgiving place, feel better in kitty heaven where your body is no longer in pain and you do not need to fight to defend yourself anymore.

Rationalizing in my mind. He'd still be alive if I did not trap him/keep him in the trap over the weekend, and get him put under for neuter at the vet today, but he such a hard life here. Other question is Neuters are ketamine (not general like spays). They might have screwed up the dose, took our pets there once. ONCE. A loss from ketamine is unlikely compared to Iso. But also all his wounds, time and time again, infections/abcesses, he could have been septic, and dying here would have been worse than while under at the vet. Idk, still figuring it out in my head.

You did the right thing, you were only trying to help a animal in need.

That is sad but it sounds like he was in very rough shape so was probably suffering. He would have known a few seconds of peace and his hurts would have been alleviated before he let go. Do not blame yourself - you were probably put in his path to help end his suffering.

RIP poor kitty and may your afterlife be much, much happier than it was while you walked this earth.
