I'm not sure if there was any blood work done the second time...I think so, still waiting for results. The first time, they did a complete work up looking for organ function as well as any tick born diseases, all was fine except he was ever so slightly anemic, and his WBC was slightly elevated. I think it's an infection, it's just the timing is way off, the first one showed up 10 days post-op, the second one showed up two weeks after he finished a full three week course of doxycycline.

That antibiotic is really rough on the digestive system. Need to have food with it.
Would be interesting to see what the doc mike bayerl thinks about this recurrent infection.

Thanks for your support, but I'm definitely not a vet. However, I certainly like the idea of the course of doxy. That would have covered just about all possible tick-borne disease which are always my first guess with lame dogs. After that, I don't have anything else to add. Good luck getting it sorted out soon DaveGunter

They install cats in LP heaters these days.
    :faint:

Gave mine a vinegar/water spray yesterday, as well as chimney and stove cleaning.

    Too much crap in chimney.

Will see how it looks after new stove with dry wood.

Vet says it's immune mediated inflammation, just something wacky happening with his immune system, and not an infection. Took him off NSAID (meloxicam) and put him on some steroid (prednisone). I'll follow her advice for now, but I'm inclined to try and get him off all meds as soon as possible.

Prednisone can be very hard on the kidneys.................... Years ago, had to put me retired K-9 down for kidney shut down, after he had been exposed to it for several years.
