Ruger finally started pulling his weight around here.
He carried this round about 3/4 mile down the mountain last night after it bounced off the lawn cart. :bug:

It's funny. Every time we are at the top of the property and start down, he runs and grabs a stick to take home, but this was the biggest round yet.

Nice one, mine does that too - even though the limbs turn into twigs these days as hes 12y. I usually collect them and make a junglefire once a year.

What sort of breed is this? Some Coonhound? If he would be brindle id say hes a Plotthound.

Jackson is my Cur/Blood/Plott/Walker. Well Seasoned and I and the lovely Miss Dawn met up for a day hike of Mt Jackson a few years ago, here is another pic he took of "Spider Hound"

That #10 is the real hard part. When their head drops and eyes close, I swear a piece of me leaves with them. I am destroyed for weeks after that. The best way for me to deal with it is to bring home another fur friend. Always room for fur friends at this homestead.

Keeping him on leash, as little exercise as possible for two weeks then gradually increase the mileage of walks watching for any lameness to return, if the lameness returns with increased on leash walking then I'll probably opt for surgery at that point, if the lameness doesn't reappear then I will just gradually increase the amount and duration of the walks until 8 weeks or so and hope whatever healing he can do on his own holds. I am committed to having my dogs off-leash, so basically whatever that takes.
