This evening I was giving my wife a brief one handed shoulder rub. The Shepard came over, got up on his hind legs, put his front paw on her other shoulder for a brief moment then walked away. I wish I had a video of it.

Haha. The toe-grabber has been good here lately. She's into nerf gun darts now.

Partial ACL tears in both knees, one side is worse than the other. The vet recommends trying to let them heal/form scar tissue by restricting activity/on leash only for 6-8 weeks gradually increasing activity over that time, then resume normal activity and if he ends up lame again then surgery. I've consulted two different vets, my regular vet says to avoid surgery if at all possible because they never fully come back. Reading up now on all the different surgery options.

I told the vet that I am very active with my dogs. Jackson is not quite 4. Complete rest for the last week and a half and he is not lame at all right now.

Thing is, now is the best time for me to deal with the down time. Dealing with down time 6-8 weeks from now could be MUCH harder due some personal circumstances.

My lab had that in one rear leg. Vet gave me two or three surgical options. One was a couple of holes in the bone and some fishing line. Activity was restricted for several weeks. Cost $1300. I had to a lot of steps so I had to use some lifting belt around his mid section. I also had to back off on his pain meds so he would slow down. Years later, he is very arthritic and too heavy. I give him some meds and he gets along ok. He cannot run at all, Just hobbles along like an old man. He is 9. If it was my dog I would lean toward letting the tear heal. by holding him back from play etc. Key is keeping him from more injury while he heals. This recovery may well be the same if not longer for surgery. Good luck with whichever way to go with this.

Dave, that stinks! Hope he heals quickly. Both legs at once....that's rough.
