I use one of those, or something similar, and it works pretty well. As for not covering, I think that is something that male cats have a propensity for not doing. Never had an issue with female cats not covering their leavings. Try a Citrus Magic solid air freshner if the odor travels outside the room where the litter box resides. You can also try baking soda mixed in with the litter too.

We fixed this argument at our house...everybody closes the lid when done, period. That way everybody has to open something...either a lid, or a seat...fair is fair. :handshake:

EDIT: You guys are tricky...I see what you did there (now)

Have you tried a different cat litter? That sometimes worked for me.

Daughter's cat is fussy with litter like that too. It can be a real messy cat otherwise.

Ginger and relaxing to a nice evening watching Blues hockey. I have a rack of St. Louis style ribs going in the masterbuilt smoker 225 °F with hickory. Hopefully I'll be celebrating a win over ribs a beer later tonight. 0109181852a.jpg

Guess I'll have to try that too, just seems that everything costs $$. I have some bulk astro-turf green colored (the plastic spiral mesh kind) stuff for when the dog door goes in coincidentley in the same small entry way, will try that underneath his litter box, and the magic citrus solid deodorizer. (thanks bogieb :) ). Honestly lil guy has been sick more than 50% since we got him after Halloween so I'll have to experiment. I've used both a generic scoop litter and also some Precious Cat, WWW picked up a jug of Tidy Cat light weight scoopable.

Only wildfires and deer prepare Lodgepole pine to germinate. We had some AWESOME seedlings at my previous home of 21 years come up from deer.
