Pippa has the look of a Black Mouth Cur but is only 35 lbs and has the temperament of a terrier. She 'll give any Jack a run for it. The only time she is not going at high speed vertical or horizontal is when she sleeps. We don't think she is more than a couple of years old. She had just quit weaning when she came. We could never find out what happened to her. We searched the whole area in case there were any puppies. She kept going up north to place just off our property but we never found anything. The neighbors didn't know her either. She may have been dumped.

Cocoa the kitten perked up last night after the vet, seemed decent this morning during dawn, then a slow decline all day. Vet advised to call if he crashes (silly, there are no emergency places here after hours). Dosed him with eyedropper for water all day, as well as dabbing gerber baby food on the roof of his mouth (recommended by the new vet). I'm tired from worrying, and he's DONE with me holding him and tipping his lil head up to swallow the few drops of water at a time. Took a break with lil one and cheered her on while she danced with the volume all the way up. (thank you Horkn , sincerely).

I can't tell you how bad I regret not standing up to that overbearing vet and just letting her do whatever (against breeders instructions). Lesson learned.

    I con-cur ( lol).

That's absolutely a black mouthed cur.

35 lbs is right on the money for a cur. My brother has one now, ( Birdie) and he had one previously named Bender.

My two labs don't like any thing that is sudden or load, like thunder, gun shots, or firecrackers. One is very phobic about the vacuums. The other one loves the vacuum. One doesn't like stairs. not even one step. I had them both as pups, never any abuse. Somehow they are born imprinted with some of these behaviors and it has to be trained out of them. Can be done humanely with the right approach. They are both very affectionate dogs. I have to be very careful not to trip over them because they are often right beside me day and night. I have PTSD. These dogs are very calming for me. when I get triggered or have a panic spell, these dogs are right there seeking my attention. I am blessed to have them in my family.

The old gerber baby food is another standby that's always in the cabinet. Turkey is an all-time favorite. I hope he feels better soon.
Hodge is not doing so well. He stayed at the clinic until tomorrow for more testing. There is a chance that he has a tumor in his sinus areas. He has one in his mouth, no wonder he wasn't eating. He can't breath and his mouth hurts poor baby. We'll see what the vet says tomorrow.
I am going to consult a holistic vet about Lucy. Lucy seems to feel great, she's been ruff housing with the other two but vomited her food up today. I need some help. The regular things aren't working. I've worked with Dr. Broadfoot before she is the one vet here who is against vaccinating so much and spaying and neutering so early. I like her but she is a long drive from where i'm at.

Thanks, it's nice to know what she is, I thought she was too small, for some reason i always thought of curs as big dogs. All my others are adorable mutts.:D

Cur by definition means mix or mongrel, but there are definitely some lineages of Curs especially in the Deep South, seems to differ a bit by the region too, is the inside of her mouth and tongue black?

Thank you. This morning still no improvement, but grateful he isn't/didn't crash. Another long day of nursing him against his will and of course, worrying. I keep praying he'll turn around soon.

Hodge is not doing well. His blood test was remarkably good for and old guy but he is still not eating. On antibiotics and steroids now. But it's not looking good.
He is still at the vet and on iv.
Also talked to the holistic vet today. She gave me "Vetriscience Pro line Entero Health pro" $ 65 for 60 little chews, 3 per day. They don't even get embarrassed asking those prices.
Lucy has to go in on Monday for you will never guess what!!!:emb: A poop transplant. I should make this another thread it would be such a great topic:rofl: :rofl: :rofl:
However they seem to have a lot of success with those in human medicine as well. The restoration of gut flora seems to affect the whole body but one has to be very careful of the donor. It has to be very healthy stool from somebody who has never been on antibiotics.

How is Cocoa? Did the vet ever tell you whats actually going on with him? This is much more than a normal reaction to the vaccine. There is something serious going on.
You said you did something the breeder told you not to. What was that, if you don't mind my asking. I'm not being nosy just want to learn and find out what might be going on. I hope he picks up soon. Is he getting enough liquids? You can check that by pulling his skin up a bit at the shoulder blades. If it springs right back he is ok but if it stays up or goes down slowly than he is dehydrating and nothing kills these little guys faster than dehydration. We are sending lots of good thoughts his way.

Thanks loon, I had never heard of it before. It seems to have been around for a long time and the success rate seems very high. What I don't understand is why that is not the first line of treatment instead of nearly killing the patients with antibiotics and steroids first and then finally using this.

Hang in there Hodge!! I actually read about fecal transplants in my pregnancy book while prego, sure its poop, but it sounded quite effective, fingers crossed for Lucy, who's the donor?
They are on their way back from the vet as I speak, they called it an "adverse reaction" to the vaccinations. They ran bloodwork this time, I don't have the results yet but WWW said they were looking at his kidneys  and prescribed Metronidazole and hoping for a turn around in 2 days. Fingers crossed again!!
