Gave Bentley his presents a minute ago. An xl Kong extreme with a hollow bone jammed inside that I filled with peanut butter.

Here I made him "leave it"

Here's a closeup of the goods. Note the blue label beam. It's not bad surprisingly. :)

He also got a new spiked leather collar since he seems to be too friendly (or stupid) to keep anything from biting him.

Merry Xmas to all the fhc dogs (and cats) from the Bocefus pack.

Moose came to our place as a pup last January and spent most of his time in the house until late spring. He then became an outside dog. We had some big wind come through today and wreck his shelter, so he came in the house for the first time in months. One year ago my son held him in his lap. 1225161704.jpg

I will have a whole pack of dogs (7), a clutter of cats (8) waiting, and a small flock of birds (4). All of them lived into at least their mid-teens. No matter how many pass, it never gets easier. They were all special in their own ways.

Cutting wood last winter, my son lost his gloves, and didn't know it until we got home to unload. It snowed that night and the next morning Doug didn't figure we would be able to find his gloves. Buddy did.

Here's our crazy ewe lambs today. They are really crazy!

Yesterday, the wife and I watched them tear @ss around the yard for at least 10 minutes for absolutely no apparent (to us?) reason. I highly recommend Icelandic sheep for anyone considering small ruminants.

Appears they have the same desire as goats to be "king of the hill" no matter what you put out they will try to get higher than the rest

Actually, at this time, Ava, the one on your left is the only one in estrus. We are keeping all of them away from our ram lamb, since we don't want to bread our ewe lambs. Our ram lamb has two full-grown (3 and 4 y.o.) ewes to service, so he's pretty busy.

Maybe you might want to build them some sort of hill like thing to climb on. Looks like that is what they want to do.

Yes!!! Deann my wife - who formerly taught special ed for 13 yrs - has been devising play toys for them. I have no doubt she'll come up with some great ideas. As you can see, a bale of straw with a little hay/alfalfa on top is tremendously entertaining... We're also working on getting them some more diverse habitats (lawn, wood, bramble, etc.) fenced in to keep their minds and their belly's happy.

Red.. a.k.a. Mou Mou, a.k.a Aretha is the most animated of the whole flock. She loves playmates and she loves to entertain herself. She is the most curious and at the same time the most skittish of the lambs. I can't wait until next fall when we can breed her for some more lambs. We LOVE her STRONG personality and hope to breed that into our stock. Our ultimate goals/priorities are: GREAT personalities, great milking, great wool, great breed stock and excellent meat.
