Gave the cats their monthly flee treatment today (I've had Rita for just days under a month now - how time flies). I always marvel at the change in Fuzzy when I do the flea treatment. He was feral when I first met him and he scouted our house for 5-6 years. Never letting us near him, but eating food that we left out on the deck. When he finally consented to being touched, he fell in love with pets and became instantly tame and trusting.

Anyway, when it came time for flea treatment, he would be a handful and I would have to grab him by the scruff of the neck and manhandle him to get the stuff on him (and watch for claws and flailing limbs). However, I always followed with treats (Greenies) and praise when he was calm enough to take them (this is the only thing that ever ruffled his feathers that I remember). Today, although he wasn't pleased when he realized what was going on, he stood still and allowed the process to happen without a fuss . He has been good about it for a while, but I always marvel at the change :).

I had no idea how Rita would react. She is a bit skittish about hands above her head (heck, the ceiling fan gives her nervous tics :jaw:) and when I restrained her she tensed as if ready to flee. I pressed firmly, but gently, down on her shoulders and she flattened right to the floor - not moving until I was finished and removed my hand from her back. She got praise treats too, (ProPlan treats as she doesn't care for Greenies).

So, they are protected for another month without much fuss at all.

IMG_5668.JPG Having lost my Best Buddy back in April, to say I have been a little "dog lonely" would be a understatement. Was asked to baby sit a friend's Great Dane. This is "SLOAN", 150 lbs. of Gentle Giant. He seems to have settled in nicely. He was a rescue who had been abused in early life, but who now lives like Dog Royalty with his present family. It has been a pleasure to have him for sure.......

I am betting that morning chase will go on for a very long time. I have 6 cats, all very friendly. They do that morning thing every day. Only with six of them, they can get going so fast they knock things over. 5 are all related. No fighting, no clawing etc.
Today, I found all six of them batting a dead mouse around. That poor mouse picked the wrong house to come into.

This is the guard troop at our campsite last week. Shadow knew she shouldn't bark so what we got from her was this constant running outboard sound. Very guttural grumbling. There were dogs everywhere but I couldn't get over how quiet the campground was at night.

I heard Rita giving of some strange noises and went to investigate. She was watching out the back door where birds were at the feeder just feet away. Then, I saw her main focus, Chippie who had been on the deck so I hadn't seen him. While I was watching the birds for a second, Chippie jumped onto the railing and onto the feeder - Rita avidly followed his progress. Funny thing is, even if I opened the door she wouldn't go out. But he is keeping her entertained.

I think campinspecter needs one as well. We had a hard time saying no when our favorite breeder of rat terriers was downsizing her kennels.

My boy dogs hate the pool, I think it's the chlorine or its too clean, they prefer the stream or pond.
Its good to see I'm not the only crazy trying to keep the pups cool.

How did you make out with the dog sitting? Great Danes are so big. You are a good guy for doing this for your friend.

It's not so bad, and for them it's worth it!!! I don't water the grass or do anything crazy. It's basically a kiddy pool. I also have a back up well on the property I put it 30 years ago and that does most of the yard stuff.:)

That pool is filled every day for them. When they stop going in, then I know they don't need/want it anymore. The corgis love the water but "HATE" the hose.
