I don't know, that lead up was preparing me for bad news. Glad it wasn't. My brother had a rescued gray hound. Lived a very good life. Very gentle animal but never could be trusted off leash

That sums up our two greys. They all do have very unique personalities, just like any other breed.

Two of my dogs are on Revolution - Billy Bob(lab mix) and Samson aka Fuzzy Buddy(yorkie) and they both have Fleas first time in ~8-9yrs - Samson especially, 20+fleas when I gave him a bath.
Minnie our chiweenie has Advantage multi, only because they didn't have her weight size one time - no fleas or biting.

It's time for tick collars regardless, and I plan on swapping the remaining Revolution for Advantage Multi.

Ok, first off, Maple is doing good. We have had ups and downs as you all know. We went through a food aggression thing months ago, but that has been worked out. The next thing is strange. It started at a hotel. When Dawn would bring Saucy in from outside at the potty, Maple attacked him twice. We're hopimg it was the different setting, a hotel, but we're worried none the less. Also, another thing she has been doing that is new, is when she goes in an area that is like a den, and she brings a toy or her blanket in, if saucy, Dawn or myself goes near her, she growls, shows teeth, and has lunged at both of us. I dont know what the hell has triggered this problem, but we need advice.......... weird behavior that is not acceptable. I do typically run her everyday, usually around 2 miles. We are also cleaning up the house of junk, so things are a little out of sorts. Have any of you experienced this before or know what we can do?

Frontline + or Advantix!!! We live in the "highest risk" area for Lyme disease and other tick borne illnesses. We have literally tried everything and the best products for us are Frontline + or Advantix. Our local Veterinarians agree. Nothing is perfect, and we still pick ticks (mostly, but not always dead) off our dogs and very rarely pick ticks off ourselves. Thankfully, we have only once had fleas on our pets, and that was 10 yrs. ago. Permethrin works great too! You can get it in bulk and cheap at any local Ag. store. It can be diluted and sprayed on clothing andit resists many washings. However, it is very toxic to cats, so I would not recommend it if you have cats that you care about.

The den behavior seems pretty straight forward "resource guarding." I would strongly suggest that you enlist the help of a local behaviorist. We had a couple of dogs who almost got euthanized for similar behaviors, but we worked through them. Here's some places to start. http://www.amazon.com/Mine-Practical-Guide-Resource-Guarding/dp/0970562942 and Resource Guarding: Preventing It and Stopping It I don't mean to make a big deal of this behavior, but ultimately, the key is to take care of it early, before it becomes a real problem.

Have you read about a correction collar? Only works if you catch her in the act. After the fact, no good. I would consult with a professional trainer. You have a lot invested in her, both in money and love. I know that aggression can be controlled with the right training. Good luck

We do use an E collar. A simple beep tends to redirect her manners, otherwise, she may get lit up. Amazing how similar she is from a little baby 6 mos ago to a cocky teenager. Ill keep everyone posted.

Maple acting weird last weekend must have been the stress of the hotel room, she has been fine all week since. Today I ran her on the trails in the woods, while I rode the quad. She is getting really fast. My limit on one of the straightaways is around 20 mph and shes right behind me. Amazing! I wish I could get decent video of her

I was going to suggest, than I actually just read in one of Mikes links is take away triggers....toys and blanket food bowls. Friend with a lil one visits sometimes and when they fight over a toy, I put it up. My daughter has not been at her godmothers house in 3 years, why? She adopted a dog that claimed and was guarding the couch, the very couch that lil one slept on. No personal experience but nip it in bud sounds like excellent advice, no fun for you, your bride and saucy to be on guard all the time.

Mine are very sensitive to new situations/surroundings, especially indoors. I've come to expect a little "bad" behavior at times. I don't view it as "bad" behavior, it's just the dogs way of dealing with the stress.

I've seen some food agression between my two labs. Usually the older male wanting to dominate left overs. We try hard not to set them up for a confrontation. We can reach into their mouths and take something away they shouldn't have. No people aggression. Our grand kids are all over these dogs without any growling or nipping. We had an old rescue that just loved my wife. But even she had a startle reflex. I guess it is avoiding situation that lead to aggression. Often very individual. Stress and stress with fright and surprise being most of the problem. I can live with that.
