Willow got snapped in two spring traps this afternoon, not 2 minutes apart, she's fine.

I really need to sell this house and get a big piece of land out in the middle of nowhere where people will leave me the F alone.

Glad she's ok! And I HEAR ya! We have neighbors on the front of the property and on one side, but luckily we face the cliffs and the woods. Our property it's a giant L shape, but yahoos still find there way around!

Good looking dog! Glad you were able to relax! The cooler temps are moving in!

And it started. She wants out every 30 minutes to hunt bunnies, new for this pampered couch potato after turning 7 y/o this fall. :picard:

That is scary. We're the traps set on your land? Near a well known path?
We had a hunter on our house lot today. Makes me nervous being so close to my house.

    The will to live.
This story was in today's newspaper:
BOW, N.H. — A 1-year-old black Labrador retriever that escaped from its home in September has been found stuck in a well and has been returned to its owner.

Eileen Ketcham said she was trying to put her dogs Lillie and Sunny inside her home in Bow for the night on Sept. 13 when they took off.

“While I was putting the other dogs in, they went out of sight,” she said. “Gone.”

Sunny was killed along a highway that night, she said, and Lillie couldn’t be found.

She posted fliers with photos of Lillie and contacted Granite State Dog Recovery, an all-volunteer organization that works with police, animal control officers, shelters, veterinarians and rescue groups to reunite lost dogs with their owners.

On Nov. 1, Adam Cheney was hunting in a wooded area near his parents’ house when he heard a dog barking.

“It kind of startled me because it was so close,” he told NH1.

About 15 yards away he discovered a very weak and emaciated Lillie stuck in a 5-foot-deep well, sitting in a foot and a half of water.

“She was cold, thin,” he recalled. “She was shaking.”

Cheney reached into the well and lifted out Lillie, who used to weigh 70 pounds but had dropped to about 45 and couldn’t walk.

sorry to here that ,were the traps set on you property without permission? or were they legally set ? as a trapper i hate negative publicity and media propaganda ,i follow the rules but sometimes dog walkers are very irresponsible around here ,you all know i love dogs and im glad willow is ok. and of course i know you are a responsible dog owner ,if fact many could learn from you .

    It's complicated.

The traps were not on my land. My land was divided from the land the traps were on. When I bought my land I had oral permission from the owner to walk the land and have been doing so for years. The traps were set basically on the trail. The land owner I bought my piece from and got permission from has since died. I think he passed the land to his son/company. I have not spoken to the son about walking on his land, my mistake I will correct that soon. So the traps could very well have been set legally, not sure if the trapper has permission. When the dog got trapped I was upset and flustered, I have no experience with traps, had no idea how to release her. I picked up the traps, probably shouldn't have. The traps are labelled with the owner's name, I will contact him this morning and explain the situation and return his traps.

As a child, I also had a dog that was caught in a trap. Lucky for us it was only a muskrat trap and had no teeth. Was all I could do (at that age) to get the dog released. The trap was set in a public area and I did not have the dog on a leash. (leash? huh?)

    Dog was fine

Very sad the one got hit by a car, but glad the other was finally found, although in rough shape. This is where the E collar really is important.

if you need some pictures of the two trap types ( coilspring and longspring ) and how to operate them i will be happy to get you some, i completely understand you being upset and flustered .it may help you to know these traps are made to hold not harm animals and just a heads up,in most states it is illegal to touch, set off, remove any trap that is not yous without written permission of the owner so you may want to call your local warden if you have a problem ,if you call the warden service hq in augusta they can tell you your local wardens contact info. you said there were tags on them so the trapper sounds legit.

traps with teeth are not used anywhere ( legally ) and have not been in a long time, there are actually standards traps have to meet to be ok to use the only toothed trap you will see is in a peta solicitation

Maple was having fun just sniffing around for an hour while I continued stacking wood in the shed. Now she's pooped out!
