It's so simple, but not the way people think.

Think like a dawg, it makes sense then.

Whichever one we get, it will have lipstick all over his forehead within 2 minutes.:picard:

The house is puppy prepped, we're all packed and will leave for up north to stay at the camper for 2 nights. First night no pup, just the 2 dogs, the wife, and I. Then Saturday, it's puppy time!

It drives me insane to hear someone beg their dog to do something.
Our trainer starts every dog in her puppy classes. You might be in puppy classes for 2-3 sets of 6 weeks.
You can always tell at a glance the ones that aren't going to 'graduate' to the advanced classes. Sadly like you said, they just don't get it. Usually the ones that talk to the dog like a child or are quiet and shy don't do well in the classes. Although I will say, i never saw anyone at our trainer's that didn't get better at at least some training.

People need more training than the dog.

Lots of good advice already. Good video from Cesar, some good ideas there for Eric VW to work with re the "jealous" bark toward his wife, definitely something you shouldn't ignore. Our two females will "claim" their spot or person giving affection, and defend it from each other. I've had to break up a number of fights between them over this behavior, got a few stitches in my hand from sticking my hand in the middle of them. We had to have some pro trainer help in ways to avoid the situation and diffuse it if it escalates.

My wife gets frustrated because the hounds don't listen to her as they do for me. We've been working on it but it's tough because I work with them much more regularly than she does. She falls into the trap of repeating the command over and over, basically begging the dog to react, whereas if I give the command and the dog doesn't react, I'm ready to correct them immediately. Also being the person who has taught the dogs the expected behavior to the command makes them react to me differently than her.

I agree training is a good idea, problem is the rural area here isn't teeming with these kinds of folks that offer training.
But I won't stop there! I will report back any developments....

    Lab pup is beautiful.

It was really hot today so I filled up the kiddy pool for Minna, she loves the water.

We recently started a training class at the local MSPCA, all positive reinforcement, clicker training,
she is doing very well, really food motivated.
lots of info on the web if you are not familiar with it.
