our hard floors keep the labs from acting out while inside. They know that any sudden move means they will be sitting down. No traction, no action.

FIVE pieces of grilled tater jumped off the plate on the way in from the grill tonight and landed in the dirt, not four, not six but FIVE, coincidence? I think not.

As I was cooking this afternoon, I noticed Shadow up to something.

We know she loves salal berries and her private patch is now very ripe so she spent about an hour foraging for berries. This is what she was eating.

They make awesome jelly/jam and I hope to be out picking in the next week or so.

I never knew of salal berries. I had to Goggle them to find out what they are. None here on the East Coast. I'll have to stick to our native blueberries. Maine is known for it's wild blueberry harvest.
Hope you get to make you preserves.

Never heard of salal berries, what is their flavor like?

The girls will forage blueberries esp if you are picking, they just follow your hand. I have blueberries on my cereal every morning, frozen most of the year, seems some always fall out of the bowl and onto the floor, they line up ready for the "drops" as soon as they hear me open the freezer.

Let me know if these pics are too much. I am sharing these here because I think the feelings are common on this site.

@ 10 years old, Bear has a deep respect for the hard kitchen floor. He tip toes around in there just like it was me on the icy driveway. We have both had enough of introducing our backsides to hard landings on the ground unexpectedly..............................

We had track rescued Greyhounds in the past. Greyhound anatomy is more like a horse than a canine, most will resist sitting. Sad story about dogs and slippery floors. We had to euthanize our last very elderly Grey after we came home and found her splayed out on the kitchen linoleum covered in her own feces and urine and bleeding from various wounds from banging into the metal HW baseboard, exhausted and unable to stand. She must have just lost it on the slippery linoleum and was unable to right herself and had a panic attack.

Similar to a very dark blueberry but a bit mealier. I like them in jam made with just a bit of sugar added. You don't need pectin as they jell after 15 mins. of boiling.
