We have 5 racks built similar to the one behind the trailer, they will hold 1 cord each, stacked level with the pallets, 1 rack has 1 1/2 compartments.compartments, so that is 5 1/2 cords. Then, we have these 2 sheds. The one on the right will hold 5 cords, we had it full a few months ago. The one on the left we built this summer. It should hold 9 cords. The big shed has 8 ' walls, I even have to climb to stack it Got 3 cords of split hickory on the right side. On the left side, we are stacking an assortment of splits and small rounds, for personal use. Then we have this shed, it's 5x10x6, personal use as well. It probably holds 1 1/2 cords.
Love the pics! That’s a lot of firewood you’re capable of storing. Last couple years, when I’ve had firewood in my pole barn, I’ve had to climb to stack as well. Takes a lot of time unless you have someone handing you the splits, but I did it because I could get so much more wood in there without sacrificing more floor space! Bet you’re glad you built the new shed last year. I see it’s being put to good use! Hoard on, my friend
Yes sir, we are glad. I didn't get much hickory for a long time, then earlier this year, we were given the chance to clean up a house lot. Guy had pushed them up. Got 5 trailer loads from that job, then his FIL, who owns all the land around there, gave us the big ones we are processing now, 5 more trailer loads. And they have more they want cleared to have a view of the pond. Yep, we are some happy eager beavers...
Yes sir. It's mostly limbs we cut up. Up to about 3-4", bigger we split. Some of that has been in there 2-3 years. Plus we have LONG summers.
Great splitters. We used to run ours vertical too, but started having hip/ back pain and we have the older 25 ton splitter for vertical use on big rounds. The new splitter is so fast, we added the upgrades and reall3 l8 it now.
This is the way I started our fire this morning. I use 2 short pieces of spruce 2x4 with twisted paper and a few splinters of fat wood on the bottom Then stack a few strips of pine pallet boards and some of the limb rounds on top. Light it off... Ait can move under and through the stack really good. Maybe 5 minutes later... Let it burn down some and I added a 1 bigger round of maple and hickory, let that light and cut air down. Wish the blue showed up more... It was probably about 7 or so when I lit the fire, 65° inside, 9:00 when I took the coals picture, 77° inside now.
After spending most of the day with our son and his family, we got started on splitting the pile of smaller hickory rounds. The stack before We finished stacking about 8:00 We will start on the big logs next...
