Well, finally did cut a little wood this afternoon, got a late start this morning on a yard job we did, had to get trimmer fixed and this little beauty followed us out the door. And found a pair of SHORT chaps for somebody special. She bucked a few pieces of cherry, she's learning.
I did surprise her with the rest of her gift...she had the 7" skillet like this and loved it, so I found this set on Amazon, she sure was tickled.
LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE!!! Nice work Miz Carol! Now she can experience the funnest part of firewood, not just boring old splitting and stacking. She'll get comfortable with it in no time.
Jeff, you tell Miz Carol for us, don't try to break any cutting records with the new saw. And, above all take it nice and slow, get to know its little quirks and how it runs and acts and she'll be just fine!! Real power tools are a whole lot different ''game'' when it comes to safety. By the way, you did GOOD buying those chaps for her too!! And the skillets just to let her know she's #1!! Way to go.

I managed to get in a couple hours of therapy time last night. Got everything set up about 8:00 or so and worked until 10:00. Finally starting on the last row. Had several nice size rounds with big knots or punky sap, so more went into the cull pile than usual. Maybe we can finish this rack by the end of OCTOBER...lol...life does change your plans sometimes...
This was Monday afternoon about 2:00. Mid to upper 90's all week, still very little to no rain. We have leaves turning more down here than up north. And trees are dying. I have a nice pine that just died above the wood yard. It's next to the electric service going to Mama's house. Hope I can get electric company to cut it down...
We did make it to the wood yard today. The electric company trim crew was at the house this morning, I got them to trim back a cherry tree enough so I could drop it without hitting the line, got about 25-30' of logs of of it and then the removed the oak widow maker the was very close to our well house. After they left, we got some oak SS. Rack when we started... Finally getting into the bigger rounds... And when we quit for the day, half way done.
That's hot. The leaves have been turning for two weeks here, they're finally starting to show some nice colors. September can be a very wet month for us but so far we've had heavy rain for a day and then dry for 5 or 6 days. The rain has allowed me to burn about 4 or 5 face cord of junk wood that has been in a pile for a long time. Hopefully they'll take down the tree for you, up here if it would take down a power line, they would take it down at no cost.
Been one of the hottest September's I can remember. I like dove shoots and football games...glad I didn't go to either this past weekend... Our forecast for the next few days...maybe it will cool a bit, still not much chance for rain.
The higher elevations could get patchy frost tonight, our low should be around 40, the low for tomorrow night around 55 and then starting on Saturday for four days the highs should be around 69 with the lowest low around 44. I have some stacking to do so that will be perfect. We've had our last boat rides (more rocks than water) so the boat has been winterized and put away.
Nice that the bucket truck did some trimming for you. The only time I see the the power company trimming is after a damaging snowstorm. Otherwise Asplundh does roadway trimmings in sections. Your stacked up shed looks great, I don't see much bark, is it falling off as you split?
Our electric co-op contracts every couple years to trim lines and service drops. The cherry tree would have hit the line if it fell, the oak limb was close to our service. Hope I can get them to drop the pine that just died next to Mama's service. We are taking the bark off with the splitter, some is loose. Logs were cut last November, getting flat head grubs and those black ants under the bark, gets rid of them and helps it dry faster.
Managed to get a little splitting therapy in last night for a couple hours. It officially got to 100° again yesterday afternoon, so I didn't mind working till 9:30 last night. It was level at the lowest point when I started. This is water oak, in the red oak family. Main trunk wood is still in excellent shape. We dropped these 2 trees on Nov 1 '18. I'm taking a little extra time to debark the splits going into the shed, most has the borers just starting, usually just under the bark. Pass or 2 with the splitter blade usually cleans right up. Even the birthday girl wanted to come visit for awhile. My M-I-L used to help us on the woodyard when she lived close to us. I enjoyed her company.
