Haven't ran Blue Samson in 2 weeks, it's spring in Dixie, so no telling what you'll find. Went to the woodyard yesterday evening, uncovered Blue Samson and found this on the back side of the pusher plate... Probably a house wren, luckily no eggs present yet, so got evicted.
Those wrens sure like to buld their nests back in little hidey-holes. Glad you found it before it was permanently occupied.
It's been a good week in Dixie. Monday a guy gave us some trees he had taken down with an excavator. Some we had to limb and cut off the stumps We took the sweet gum and limbs and piled that in the woods . We got a nice load of oak... Tuesday we went back to our friends place and cut pines. Pines, pines galore thread. Wednesday we helped an old friend take down part of a pecan tree... We took off 3 main stems... Another friend helped and got a trailer load of farwood We left a nice pile of logs to process this fall... He will get a local tree service to come take the rest down. The main trunk was huge, and looked to have some rot. Didn't want to chance something going wrong and hitting his house.
Wednesday afternoon we hauled a big brush pile off for some more neighbors... Took 2 loads and we also cleaned up a few more privet clumps
We did a little work at our son's place yesterday. Ground up a few stumps, removed a pine tree, and made him a garden spot. Used the Catawba grapple, broke some roots around the pine and L4802 did the rest... Headed to the brush pile... Used the grinder on a couple stumps in the garden area that we could see, then just ran grinder over the whole spot, took care of some other roots and small stumps. Didn't get a picture after we ran the tiller over it, it's very dry down here...
Compost Are you saying he needs some Chit? I forget city folk buy this moo-dirt is literally 50/50 mix topsoil and cow manure I have access to the farmers excess pile; cow excretion and wood chip bedding, after 3 years it’s black dirt
While we were on our MI GTG trip, our son called, said the wildflower seeds and come in. So Wednesday morning we got busy...harrowed about 1/2 acre or so, spread 200# of quick acting lime and 200# of 10-10-10 fertilizer, raked it in... He bought a 10# bag of wildflower seeds... And 3 2lb bags of different blends... I rode on the back of the SxS with Miz Carol driving slowly to spread seed... After making a full pass over the plot, we had some seed left, so we made a cross pass and added some old clover seed we found in the big spreader...maybe it will come up this fall. That's the pink seed in the hand spreader above. We then did 2 passes over the plot with the drag... Looks pretty good... And we're getting some nice rain on it now. Hopefully we can get some nice pictures later. Here are the links to the different flowers we planted... 10 lbs of SE mix, 2# each of the others... https://share.google/F29B8ZT6dloX3p3RY https://share.google/QVbWH8WTOBbXQ6hbz https://share.google/DPyRdVuqcKJyEIcuW https://share.google/7oKEEt63RuaOljgDA
This is the 14x14 new flower bed we're building. We have several different color bearded irises that need dividing, they will be planted at the back. In the front, we will plant 80-100 tulips that we ordered in Holland MI when we visited. Used the Catawba grapple to rake up grass, then dug up and cleaned roots out. Tractor bucket scraped up some woodyard dirt to put on top. Got to add some old chicken litter and finish the borders.
We got the left side wall rebuilt with 4x4's, then added 2 1/2 tractor buckets of chicken litter. Used the tractor tiller to mix it in. We raked it level, installed the back 6x6 and covered with old pine straw. Now just wait till bulb planting time.
After the wild goats (deer) got in our son's garden and ate the tops of his cucumber vines, he decided it was time to put up the electric fence. Miz Carol holding an 8' T post... Used the bucket to gently push the posts in the ground Found a nice pine stump at the edge of the garden...those pine taproots go deep in the sand soil... Got it filled back in and fence completed
