Git'ter done down in Dixie

That’s the good thing about having a dedicated cutting area with a thick bed of chips. A little slip up and the chain hits chips instead of sand, clay, or rock.

Back and side view of rounds pile. It was easy to buck and then pile rounds using the grapple.
Added boards above the pallets, so we could stack higher. That one tree had a bit more than a 1/3 cord in it.

We have a full cord on ash in that shed, we also got a maple for the cemetery clean up, going to add it also. Maybe that will fill it completely

 

Had time after work yesterday to sort out a load of logs and get the maple, only 1 tree...

Had enough to finish filling that shed...

 

A friend dropped his dump trailer off while we were in Ohio. He gets a load for a lady he knows each year. We got it done today

 

We had a beautiful day on the woodyard Thursday, after making a couple deliveries that morning.
We had 2 piles of log cutoffs that needed processing.
I decided to go ol' skool on some of the pieces...
Miz Carol was helping on the bigger chunks...

We got a tote full of oak, hickory, ash and a few pieces of mulberry.
Still have some ash left, may make another tote, as we will probably have more cutoffs on the next trailer load next week.

 

Cleaned up a pile of older white oak logs this morning, most of the smaller logs were too far gone......but some was still ok...
The sapwood is punky, but the heartwood is still solid... Got maybe half the pile cut and split today...
Just piling it with the conveyor...

Our cousin will get this for their house. He doesn't care what it looks like.
They give us some fresh veggies in the summer...

 

Firewood abuse!

Well if its any consolation, I'm guilty as well.

I have WO rounds from June 2021 sitting in back at my main storage. An area I no longer use as of 2023. Still have a good amount of BL splits and rounds back there to get out. Access to it is difficult when wet as the yard is very squishy. I will process them very soon and move to the front and probably discard any bad sapwood. Another pet peeve of mine with oak is how fast the sapwood rots and/or sprouts fungi.

 

Another beautiful morning on the woodyard...finished bucking and splitting the white oak logs left from yesterday...
Decided to add some hickory and Bradford pear to the mix...
The hickory needed processing, as the borers were getting under the bark and starting on the wood...
When I sent him the picture of the finished pile, he said "Oh my goodness"
He had a stroke several years ago, mainly his speech is affected now, but his knees are shot and he really doesn't need to be running a saw.
He has blessed so many others, we're gonna bless them.

 

Good job there folks and good on you for helping him out.

How did that BP split for you? Your thoughts?

 

It split fine on Blue Samson, only used the 4way on a couple pieces, looks similar to sweet gum, grain wise. Got a good bit more to process, only got a few limbs out to try.

The time change makes getting wood to the house fun.... Glad we got the Honda SxS and upgraded top. Back up to a shed, tote or drum, turn the back light on and load the buckets.
Brought in 5 buckets of long wood and 3 buckets of chunks...
Got a nice going last night

 

Can't let these short days and long nights slow us down, set up the ladder and lights Tuesday evening after work and split a few rounds. Last night, had those lights, tractor lights and my headlamp to git'ter done.
Cut some persimmon and small hickory logs with the Echo XS4910...

Then pulled some big hickory logs out and staged them for bucking...got the XS400 for these, they've were cut after Helene, so getting dry and tough on chains.
Used the grapple to make a good pile of rounds for Blue Samson...
Hope to send them down the conveyor this evening.
