Was woozy for a while but kept working. If it would have gotten worse I would have gone to ER. My neighbor was working with me and kept an eye on me too. We never did find the snakes. My blue jacket was just fine... Still using is as you know... LOL
We've had great weather in the evenings this week, so we got to work on the woodyard. Stacked the leftover white oak form the big shed...got 1 1/2 short totes Then we started working on a trailer load of red oak for the local restaurant... This tote was about 1/3 full when we started on it, got it finished Monday night... And this much in the 2nd tote... Tuesday night bucked more rounds with the Echo XS4910, Then finished the tote... A neighbor bought our old 5' mower, we talked about bit, got it loaded, bucked and few more rounds and got this tote almost done. Tractor will pick this up, we will add a the rest later... About 2 1/2 face cords so far.
Thank, my friend. Haven't had to bring the fan out yet, but I enjoy it. Trying to get farwood and pines cut, along with my 12 hr job. I'm on my long days off now.
We finished the tote above and filled another, finished te trailer load, made 4 big totes, 1.25 cords of premium wood. Had about 5-6 rounds thst went in campfire tote. Then did a bit of clean up, had to use chain to pull this big wisteria vine down. Had the L4802 in low range, 4WD, scratching tires to get down Worked on our son's place Wednesday, deck railing, then cut this big oak stump down. Had 3 stems originally This piece was still so heavy tractor would barely pick it up. Managed to get it pushed up on pile, Got the cutoffs from trailer load split into a drum... We started on some totes of 14" splits, custom mix of oak and hickory. This one log... Made these splits in the 2nd tote... We will finish this with hickory
We had time after moving a swing set for our grandsons to work on the woodyard. Got a couple hickory logs from storage rack... Split enough to finish the 2nd tote of 14" splits ...
This week in Dixie... After my brother and his wife left Tuesday morning, we started back working on the woodyard... Got another tote of 14" oak/hickory mix done Then we had a tote partially full of white oak, finished filling it with red oak... Had rain Wednesday morning and dinner plans that evening... Hit it hard Thursday morning, Miz Carol had several errands to run that day, so it was a solo show...she did check up on me, though...like a good supervisor does... Started out getting some logs on the forks to buck This one was all the tractor wanted... Shade over 18" and 12' long Then got a very nice hickory log out... Nothing a huskihl ported Echo XS4910 and 20" bar can't handle... Had this pile of Blue Samson fodder ready by 10AM or so... Got 2 more full totes done, and another half full. This was a beautiful day, I thank GOD for all HIS BLESSINGS And the cute picture to top off the day...
Miz Carol helped me after work late yesterday, we got the tote finished. This makes 6 of the 14" totes... Probably start on 16" totes now. Also working on filling some empty drums with chunks, be some fine stove stuffers in a couple years...
We started on 16" totes today. Had a few hickory logs already out for bucking, added this nice red oak log to the mix... It has a nice color to it Blue Samson was hungry and I was happy for the log lift... Got the 1st tote done, topped and in storage Finished the last drum on this row... Got 1 empty drum on back row to fill
Had 2 12' and a 9' hickory log already out, got those bucked to 16" first thing. Got 30 rounds Then got 2 good size oak logs bucked With Miz Carol's help, we got 2 more 275 gal done...this friend wants 3. We have 3 more 330 gal totes to fill with 16" splits for another friend, hope to start on those today
We started on the tall totes this morning. Got a few more hickory logs bucked, split and stacked on bottom, finished the red oak rounds, tried to get the nice splits and big knots went to camp fire tote... We finished the tall tote with some white oak that was cut August '23. We got a tote of deer camp wood topped off too.
Life in Dixie the past few weeks... We did a little normal tractor work on our food plots, got them all mowed and then harrowed... Cleaned out a path to the big beech blowdown, maybe it will get cleaned up soon... Then back on woodyard duty...got more hickory and 2 nice red oak logs bucked... This red oak came from a blowdown on our place, sure made me glad for the log lift That pile of rounds made 3 tall totes, a good full cord... We have had plenty of afternoon showers, but we finally got that order done...4 330 gal totes of 16" splits Worked a little Monday evening and got the cutoffs split and drums. Had 2 oak cutoffs... Filled 1/2 drum with it... Then about 4 hickory chunks made another 1/2 drum... Hope to get busy again after the PA GTG this weekend
I've seen you using drums for shorts. Is it because it works really well or because they are easily available? I like picking up tips from the pros!
It works well and usually available from work. I like using the totes made like this for chunks, but that supply has ended. What we normally do, is cut the bottom of the drum out, then take the 2 plugs out of the top. Sun seems to cook the wood pretty good in there.
Yes ma'am, usually the plots are planted with winter grains, like wheat, oats, rye and sometimes turnips, clover and other seeds are added to the mix. After the acorns are consumed, it gives them something else to eat. Bees like the clover in the spring. Makes a good hunting spot too. We have planted them in the spring g as well...peas, soybeans, buckwheat, sunflowers, sorghum...
