How about a ball valve on the upright priming pipe? 1/4 turn and you are sealed up.

Just looking at the setup leaning against the truck it will lose prime if you open the spigot without extra hose draped at a lower grade regardless of the check valve spring.
You should be able to disassemble the valve and remove the spring. Provided the ball doesn't get trash on the seat it should work.

I put the project on hold for now, I did have the hose attached down the lower grade. I'll ditch the spring in the near future.

Plan B works pretty good. I have enough pressure to get at least a 10 foot radius with the sprinkler, that's a start! The area starts with simple drainage pipe, travels downhill where it meets a small spring. I tapped the drainage pipe and got decent pressure. Its not perfect but will do for now.

This is not technically a spring I dont think, but rather man made water drainage. An actuall spring comes out a little lower and meets the small stream in the woods, but not much elevation at that level.

I’ve had one of those for about 4 years now... the only issue I’ve had with it is dumbie my leaves water in the housing and cracked it several years ago... but JB weld fixed right up. I’ve pushed water through a 3/4” hoes about 100 foot to another water tank on the far end of the garden...about 1 tank of fuel for 450 gallons of water is what I get out of it...

Now on the garden side we use just the 3/4” electric pump for putting water out... it’s there cast iron one...

Horkn showed me a couple solar power water pumps a few years back, maybe he'll chime in again if it could be a fit for you.

Before you give up on it and go gas power
A simple water level with some clear tubing to determine your well level vs garden height would be a good starting point.

You could bore to just above near normal well height with a hammer drill and hydraulic cement the pvc horizontal leg. Let it it fill a 250gal tote and run soaker hose from there.
