Rope ... that’s set-up for 3/8 .050 ... you can purchase a 3/8 lo-pro wheel and have the bases-covered quite nicely ... as far as square - grinding chains I believe you wood need a silvey or if buying new a simington ... last I checked the new simingtons were $999 but we’re goin back a ways

Well all I can say is that the chain is often-overlooked - LOTTA guys with “hot” ported saws neglect the chain and the saw don’t cut for s... !

I run sharp chain. I am new to square, I have always used round. Now that I am getting into square I am looking at grinder options.

All things being equal ... sqr will be quicker ... I have the s/u for round ... it’s all a matter of how far you want to take it and how much you want to spend imho

We’re did you get your diamond dresser I would like to get one myself....

I use both stone and CBN wheels, both have pros and cons....I have got the “burr” with a CBN before, but it was so thin it would come off with a touch of your finger nail, needless to say the instant she hits wood it’s gone....

Have you used both wheels yet.....I am just wondering if somehow you got a bad one....just like you said to have $200 in 2-wheels you won’t use is no good...

Does your vented wheel do a better job than the solid CBN wheel???

To the OP, have you cut with any 3/8 chain you have ground with your 520.....I know that I hate grinding lo-pro/picco chain, just a pain.....

Anyway I have the 520 and the USG....I like the 520 and you can get a chain to cut as good as a brand new, regardless of what anyone says.....before I got a grinder I was the guy who thought a grinder only burnt Chains and took off to much material....I am here to say I was wrong....the grinder is only limited to the operators skill level!!!

I have learned ALOT about grinding this past year....my goal was to grind just like I file and get a chain as sharp as a hand filed chain....well I have accomplished that....I still hand file, so I needed to keep the same profile, “grind as you file, file as you grind as a friend says”!!!

I have both stone and CBN wheels, both can do a great job....you just have to profile and clean the stone wheel, keep away from the black ring of death, lol....

    Here are some pics......

Here is a picture of a cutter after I ground it....it shows that you can get the same profile of a file, if you get all your settings just right....

In my opinion yes it does, it is a very free cutting wheel designed for a automatic chain grinder. It's also a coarser grit and the wheel disc is steel and is much thicker. It does leave a flash Burr that rubs off with your fingers.

Yes it is. I bought it for the pico chains but it is almost never used as I only grind chains that get damaged and the picos rarely need anything but a touch up. The vented wheel is a dinasaw purchased from Bailey's. 98% of my sharpening is done with mounted points in a Dumore series 10 with the grinder used for friends chains.

There may be a small chain race on a 70cc saw in the late spring. 84 DL of 3/8" .050". Be 4 10x10 stacked together of poplar or white pine.
