With our renovation room almost complete, and the new rabbit hutch just about done, I am starting to turn my attention to my summer project. Pictures to follow on the rabbit hutch. This years summer project will be a new fire pit. Currently I have a Chiminea surrounded by the prefab curved stones you can purchase from HD. The chiminea just doesn't do it for me. I want a bigger fire without some much smoke in my face. My plan is to repurpose the current stones I used as the exterior wall. Dig down two feet, level with gravel and stone dust. The ring of stones will be the outer wall, and with the top of steel drum cut off to form the inner fire ring. This will be further from the house. All in all, this should not cost much money as I have the stone, and should be able to get the steel barrel free. I'll need to purchase the gravel/stone dust.
Looking forward to pics from this project for sure. I have to say I enjoy the firepit almost all the time, all seasons. But the fall is when I enjoy it the most, it's my favorite time of the year and I find myself staying outside by the pit longer than I do on any summer day.
