Getting ready for next year....

    Brought some wood in from my outside stacks to my "undercover" racks so it drys it up a little more for next year's season and it's closer to the stove. Also frees up space for filling up more outside stacks. :)

    This area gets sun and wind but no rain/snow and helps to really dry it out. It's already seasoned for 3 years plus. Now I need to get after spring cleanup stuff.... Nice to be outside when it's warmer.

    These racks were almost empty yesterday morning....

    I keep the softer woods in this stack, mostly Aspen, maple, sycamore and sasafrass...

    This is my "good stuff" rack with mostly white oak this year and a little hickory and blue beech... I'm looking forward to burning this white oak next season!

    I'm trying to wait a while before putting wood in the shed. It needs a bit more time to get rid of surface moisture beforehand, but I also need to get it out of my way so I can stack the new stuff I'm cutting.
    What a predicament. :whistle:

    It's nice to be prepared.

    I do the same thing...rack up next years wood from the main stacks into top covered racks...then those racks go into the shed at the end of the summer. I'm always surprised how much the wood shrinks in the racks over the summer considering that it is all at least 3 years CSS...I'd say 1.5" - 2" shrinkage is pretty typical...this is in a 5.5' tall rack.

    Good to get ahead.

    I’ve got enough wood for several years at least but this winter was so wet that I accomplished next to nothing. I’ve got about 3 cords worth of empty racks to fill before I’m back up to maximum capacity.

    I hate shrinkage... I'm closer to 3"... :tears:

    Thanks buddy... I could use a partner to help with cutting, splitting and stacking...

    nice! I can't wait to get into my woods up north after we get through this latest snowstorm and things dry out again...hopefully it will be before Memorial day weekend!!
