This is what I do I wrap a chain with a round hook making a slip chain. I put a hook on the back of my 6 wheeler or on my case 1030 3 point arm. On my polaris I have a 6" offset up hich. when I pull forward it lifts the log just enough to pull right up to the woodshed and splitter. Hook cost $4.00

You are close. This one is an old landscape timber. Next up would be a 4 x 6. We've made them using logs too. Cut a slab off the bottom and build the rest of it the same way. Build to the size you want. Very low cost and effective.

Past summer I borrowed a bobcat with a grapple from a buddy of mine to haul some logs out of the bush, that thing worked awesome!

All great ideas if you have relatively flat terrain. I have a Norse 350 winch as my property is basically a hill. While I am dragging logs down the hill, I have some side pulls and other hairy spots that I pull the logs from a distance. Many a guy have flopped tractors on side slopes, and knock on wood I haven’t. I wish my land was flat!!!!!!
