That was from Tommy Boy- he said, "if you want to take a dump in a box and stamp it 'guaranteed,' I can. But at the end of the day, we both know that it's just a guaranteed piece of chit." That was a fantastic and funny sales movie!

The first Gen 2.7 ecoboost supercrew 4x4 f150 ( 2015-2017) were getting 26 mpg when they had the 6 SPD. Now with port and direct FI, and the 10 SPD auto, they should get 1-2 mpg better. Plus, this thing hauls butt. So that's on regular 87 octane and not diesel that is 30+ cents more a gallon. Impressive.
The 2018's are just rolling in to the dealers now. Just trying to find time to test drive one...

I hear those numbers all the time. I have a Co worker that just got rid of his like 2 year old ecoboost. I think it total averaged like 19mpg. Which is better than my 6cyl dodge work truck but a far cry from the numbers you post.

I see people with the truck I have talking about 24mpg...Maybe they don't have 4wd??? But if I baby ot on back roads and basically don stop best it does is like 21 and a highway trip on the interstate no stops it gets like 18 or 19 avg over a tank.

    Dex,
Have you ever done the calculations by hand with this truck? The display is not always correct in some vehicles. My wife's 2014 Chrysler 200 displays 1-3 mpg more than I get when calculating by hand. My 2003 Chevy Silverado is about 1-2 mpg more in the display than in reality. However, my Uncle's 2015 Sierra seems to be very close.

I don't see the 10 speed helping highway mileage.

10 speed Ford, 9 speed dodge is to keep the little engines in their main power/torque band and still provide reasonable mileage. red line on my 2L starts at 6800rpm

I have, I track every mile and every gallon using the app "Fuel Log 3". Surprisingly the display is dead on. My manual calcs will come out to 24.43 MPG, and the truck display will say 24.4 MPG. And that is what I'm averaging around town after a year now, between 23 and 25. On road trips (long trips on the highway, 5 hours +...) I'm averaging 27 to 30. My best performance was a trip to Vermont (about 5 hours each way) and I got 29.7 MPG. That was driving 72 the entire way.

After a year, I can say I'm very happy with the truck. The Rambox's (tool boxes on either side of the truck bed) are the absolute BOMB!!!! I keep my basic road tools; ropes, tie-downs, straps, 30' jumper cables, fold up shovel, blocks, compressor hose (for airing down/back up to 4x4)... on one side, and the other side empty. The empty side I use daily, groceries, packages, rifles (on way to the range), extra tools if going to work on something, lunch... I'm telling you, they are the BOMB!!!

My dodge gas 6cyl is between .5 to 1.3mph higher on the display than reality hand calculations. The one time I got e85 though it was lower on the truck than actual??? By about .5mpg

Did you literally just do that update? Or did you see email notifications and it prompted you to come and give a report?

Does the 10 speed allow for a higher axle ratio?

Not Sure , axel ratios are about the same as they have been, the transmissions splits the wide ranges from the previous trannies. As I said the large number of ranges keeps the eng. in its most productive range, in theory anyway. I have found after market units that are added after the base tranny as I was searching for a 2 speed rear end. One of my trucks has 4.77 rear end, like to get that down to a 3.5 or so but still need that 4.77 for pulling. it gets locked out in 4wd.

It does. It's like a second overdrive. The 17 3.5 ecoboost is better on mpg than the 16 3.5 ecoboost. The tranny was designed to make the vehicles tow better, accelerate faster, and get better mpg, city, hey, and mixed driving.

It's not for just the smaller engine in the ford. The 10 speed is on the 3.5 ecoboost and we'll as the 5.0 v8. The turbos keep e engine in the near of the power on all of the ecoboosts.

This tranny is also on the Camaro zl1 with 650hp from the supercharged 6.2 v8.
