Demand is that high. It's like guns a few years ago. You couldn't find most models, that doesn't mean parts won't be available or that the gun itself is not avaluable now but that short term demand surpasses supply.

As far as parts almost any engine from any major maker has parts. There lots of AM parts too. But I think there is a law that says they have to have something like 10 years of parts as well. But sure they can fail to meet this or what happens after 10 years?
I don't think this will be an issue though.

That is what everyone thinks but a gas engine puts out as much as a diesel or more power in the case of the ecodeisel. Diesels are more fuel efficient with a higher priced fuel. Then when it comes time to service it it Costs more money. A Napa gold oil/ wix fitler is $28 for the ecodiesel. They do have Mahle fitler for $22. The oil is a couple bucks more a quart than what it would be for a gasser and the ecodiesel holds 3-4 more quarts of oil than a gasser. Napa doesn't even list a fuel filter for the Ecodiesel and that probably needs changed every 10k miles. A lot of new gas powered trucks have a non serviceable/ lifetime fuel filter. So even though the Ecodiesel may get more MPGs than a gasser with the higher cost to operate it, it does not take long for that to outweigh the better MPGs. The same thing is true in a 3/4 or 1 ton truck too.

Most diesels I have seen start giving problems about time they start to pay for their self. I know a guy that has had several durmax's. He had one that had some injectors replaced under warranty. Then when he got up around 200,000 he had 5 injectors that needed replaced. Since it needed 5 it made since to do all 8. The dealer told him it would be $5,000 to do the job. For $5,000 you could have put a rebuilt engine in the truck if it was a gasser.

There is a guy on TBN that has 2 Libertys with the diesel engine and he can't get the parts to fix them.

Man, that is better than the guy I know that got 21mpgs with a 7.3 pulling a 5th wheel camper.

From what I have heard the dirty max likes to eat injectors. A logger I have I think has like 2 or 3 sets in a dirty max he has and that truck doesn't have more than 250 k on it. I bet if you do it your self the job is no where near that.

Unless the Eco diesel specs a different oil than like Dell or rotella t the cost difference is like $1/qt

I think the Cummins is the only one that does not eat injectors. I'm not sure about the new 6.7PSD.

The ecodiesel needs an oil meeting chrysler spec MS-11106, like Penzoil Ultra Euro L.

I buy Valvoline premium blue when it is on sale for $10 a gallon, 2.50 a quart. I never cared for Rotella T. Take a look at this test if you use it.

Up to 04 on the Duramax, cummins is known for flex plate and constant emissions problems.

I'm curious what people consider " getting their money back" from a vehicle?

Looking at the report it may be better to use super tech oil though!

We're referring to the payback of the added expense of the diesel engine. Compared to your next best option. In this case we would be talking about $3000 over the V8 hemi in a half ton grocery getter weekend warrior.

I'm talking about time the diesel engine start pay for itself it usually needs costly repairs.

I know a guy that just bought an 06 Dmax with 275,000 on it. He said it just had all the injectors replaced.

I don't have anything against a pickup with a diesel in it. I just seems everyone likes to talk about the high MPGs they get and nothing else.

I know a woman that got the oil changed at a quick lube in her 06 cummins and they cross threaded the drain plug.
