Could be that fuel at his location is very expensive. Since he’s remote enough to need a portable genset running for 5 years straight.

I have a Predator 8750 that I back feed the whole house via the outside welder outlet after turning off the mains breaker (yes, I know...). I do change oil once a year, but probably have missed that a time or two. I put fresh pump gas with a little sea foam and marvel mystery oil in when I use it When commercial AC comes back on I turn off the gas knob and let it run out so the carb is dry, if I remember. It always starts in one or two pulls as long as I remember which way is on for the choke and to turn the run switch on. I've never put a battery in it for the electric start. I just pull start it with the recoil cord. I did add the wheel kit cuz moving it out to it's pad when I need it would be no fun. It's gotta be at least 10 years old I'm thinking. I can't remember exactly when I got it. We had a tiny little McCulloch generator before this that had to use extension cords to the freezers. This will run the HP for AC in the summer and get us hot water for showers. We just can't run the oven, stovetop, microwave, toaster, clothes dryer stuff all at once but you kinda figure that stuff all out real quick.

I put in some surge suppressors on the main box years ago as I was worried about "dirty" AC and spikes that might damage "sensitive" electronics in our house. They have LED's on them to let you know if something has damaged them and they still say they are fine. We typically have 1 outage a year that lasts for a day or two since we are out at the end of the line. We have had outages that lasted over 7 days here as well, but not in the last 10 years since owning the HF Predator. We've lost no equipment or electronics that I can even remotely attribute to the outages or generator.

We have LOTs of modern electronics here with HPWH, TV's, internet, computers, the list goes on. We have Heat Pump forced air heat with Electric Furnace back up. This is the reason we cut and burn wood for our primary heat. The whole game is to NOT let those coils in the furnace kick on.

These were some units that I got through work when we were testing for one of our DC power systems for use in Cell tower sites. They were samples so I have no clue what they would have cost. They were gonna get scrapped out of the lab so I brought them home and installed them myself. Probably put in around 2009.

Dang, that thing works better than you planned..... :p

One of my favorite moments in the OPE industry, I had just finished the paperwork for a gentleman buying a very nice snowblower. Another, saltier, customer on his way out the door says to my customer "You know now that you bought that thing it won't snow at all this winter." My customer, being the absolute legend that he is, without skipping a beat turns to me and says "I'll take two!"

The fall that I bought my F250 with a snowplow on it, I was kinda laid up with my carpal tunnel, elbow issues and recovering knee. It started missing on one cylinder so I ordered plugs and coils for it. Turned out that with my hands they were next to impossible to change on my own.

So I worked a deal with the neighbor that I would plow his drive (big hill) all winter if he would help me change my plugs & coils. He agreed. He bitched and moaned the whole time and he busted his knuckles a couple times. It was like someone had welded those spark plugs in...

We never got more than 1-1/2" of snow all winter between melts.

Neglected 5.4 Tritons are the source of stories told by mechanics to their kids to keep them from getting into the automotive industry. Was Ford's "Hold my beer" response to the predecessor 5.4s and 6.8 V10s sending their spark plugs through the hood of their host trucks. Somebody said, "They couldn't possibly get worse than this..." :heidi:

Properly looked after, those aren't terrible engines/trucks, but neglected...... oof.

Been there done that. I prefer the generations prior to the ford mod motors.

I dodged that bullet. I remember reading all about it and my truck was built the year that they used the F250 to use up the older engine and mine was prior to the change to the "two piece plug" I believe. Mine turned out to have the lesser of 2 evils... I was sweating bullets till I got it figured out and got those plugs changed out.

I can't remember the full scoop on it, but it wasn't one of Ford's finest moments...

Other than that, it's been an OK truck. It's a truck, I use it, I don't look at it much, I just use it.

Yeah I got lucky too...mine is a 2003, so past all the stupid plug (and head gasket) stuff, but prior to cam phasers!
