I agree, what I'm using is actually called a stain but it's thick like paint and covers bare (rough sawn) wood in one shot.
HD deck and fence stain. I'm not a painter, but my first building at our camp, I found some of this at HD in the "oops" section (my first stop when looking for paint ) and the price .

Painted until my gallon ran out at lunchtime. I'm good with that, at least on this beautiful Saturday. 20200926_170824.jpg

You gonna run a stack for the exhaust? The would obviously help with fumes, but would help keep heat down as well.

A piece of 3" stainless and a tractor flap would look nice on there....either through the wall or roof would work.

Stinny I was waiting for it to go, but we lucked out.
Lukem I think that I'll head for the side wall, I have to leave room for the garage door to open and would just rather not worry about sealing up a hole in a roof exit.
With a slight turndown in a horizontal position I won't have to worry about rainwater and I'll hose clamp a little pc. of wire cloth over the end to keep and critters out.

My brother bought a new to him generator a few weeks ago. Said his 5500 watt was too small. I think the new one is 8500w. Anyway, he lost power yesterday morning, and the generator shut off because it has a built in CO2 sensor and it was in an enclosed shed. Couldn't get it to restart.

Double doh! Was he able to figure it out before issues arose with freezers, work, etc?

    Sounds like a good plan.

He got called to work at 3:30am for an emergency. Got home and the power went out shortly thereafter. Then he had to be at work for normal 7am start time. Not sure on other details.

If he keeps it in a separate shed, I'd think that it wouldn't be hard to disable that feature by simply connecting (or disconnecting) the wires to the co2 sensor, similar to a low oil alert that goes bad on a Saturday afternoon and you don't have parts.

Gotta get the exhaust piped outside next. My cousins, both electricians will be doing their part next week.

My son-in-law is talking about running a generator on veggie oil. Will that be your next conversion for this unit?

Not unless it's cheaper than dinosaur juice :D.
For this relatively infrequent use, veggie oil does not store well.

Thank you Jack, I'm usually a little more basic or utility/practical but this being the first thing you see after almost 2000' of driving through the woods before you get to the house, I thought that I'd put some fancy icing on this. The house/shop is basically a huge metal building, like 110x70 footprints with a few little architectural and color features that help disguise what it really is. Our little house is only 14' of that (bless my little wife) and was intended to be eventually a guest house. We've discovered that's all we need for the 2 of us and building a "proper" home (and paying the taxes forever) would be foolish. It's in the middle of our 711 acres and that's our source of pleasure or our "living room".

"It's in the middle of our 711 acres"... nice piece of heaven in a state like Maine... bet you have a few stories maintaining and clearing snow along that long drive. Sounds like it's quite a spot...
