I read how there was a way to run gasoline engines with wood smoke. Don't remember the details. 2questions I have about this Can it work with modern engines? Has anyone here tried it?
Wood gas tends to be pretty dirty. It'll work ok in older carbureted engines. Storage is an issue, most in the UK during WWII used a big balloon type contraption on a trailer with the gasifier on that & a hose run to the carb. I don't think wood gas can be compressed for storage like LP or Methane. There are quite a few vids floating around of home built set ups. FEMA even has/had plans for a unit to mount on the front of a tractor in the event of fuel shortages. Someday I wanna build one & mess with it to power a generator.
