Many snowmobile trips to Canada I was surprised to find gas stations in Maine that had pumps that dispensed in litres and pumps that dispensed in gallons
Price per liter looks good at the pump but when it takes 3.78L to make a gallon, it's not so good. Our current price around $0.96/L equates to over $3.60/Gal....hence my
French, is a Montreal and Quebec or east thing Geographically from new York to Maine . Most western Canadians are slightly offended if you ask about french. It's an East coast thing only started by the Qubecois and there separatists philosophy. Many of wife's family go west with young children so they have to learn English and better jobs.. Then move back to family (Quebec) can get better jobs if bilingual..
most of us out west (at least from my experience) dont speak french although my grade 9 daughter takes it and is getting good at it. I took it in high school but didnt have the right attitude to want to learn it. Being Canadian it would be an asset I guess.
I understand. Your gas taxes stink. Pa's gas tax is now the highest in the country...20 cents added just this year
Pa gas tax is 50.4 cents + fed 18.4 cents =68.8 cents per gallon Pa diesel tax is 65.1 cents + fed 24.4 = 89.5 cents per gallon
Have some very good friends in meadow lake and turtle lake sk, have spent a fair amount of time out there. Their language options were French and " First Nation" languages, wich I thought was interesting. Is BC the same ? I'm in Maine and my grandfather from Quebec, could barely say his own name in English so in school I knew a lot of words that I could really p!!ss off the French teacher with and nobody could aide her.
I asked my daughter and she said that learning first nation languages isnt an option for her although the schools spend lots of time educating the youth of all ages on the history, culture and contributions of first nations in our area. The kids come home from school telling us about the different presentations on first nations that they had that day. They are very much a part of the culture of BC from the coast to the Rockies and up north. If you're curious you should look up what happened at Turtle mountain in Frank Alberta a short distance from me. Its a place that first nations calls the mountain that moves or something close to that. Of course what does the white man do? builds a town at its base... I could carry on about it but it might derail the thread.
Theres a museum at Frank that has a small display of some firewood in it. I took a picture of it last time I was there but Ill be darned if I can find it... but yes I may start one...
