I pay .09 cents per kw for grid power . 10 kw battery in the volt cost me .90 cents to charge to 100% . Winter months I can do 35 miles on the charge . Summer closer to 40 miles per charge .
    It’s a great thing Dave !

Couple big reasons I read is that US just set a record production for October and China’s economy is stagnant . Also , demand drops in winter and no more summer blend as well .

WOW! I only would have had to do 2 things today. Find a minimum of 5 places to charge and spend most of the day at a minimum of 5 places charging. Instead I opted to spend $60 in gas ti cover me for 2 days while I actually get my work done and be pretty profitable in doing so. I need to invest in one of them overpriced electric things and go on the federal payroll.

Not that it will do any good but I’ll try to explain a few things about a volt . It’s a hybrid, no need to stop 5 times and charge . It has a gas engine if you run of battery , you can still get your things done .
As far as “ overpriced electric things “ imo your way off base . My volt is loaded , and sticker price was $34,000 . With my Uncles GM discount it was just around $32000 otd. Then I got another $7500 back in the taxes the following year . So about $25,000 I paid . Pretty reasonable in my book . The Volt is not for everyone but so much false info out there from people it’s ridiculous.

Yeah, demand drops and the change to cheaper Winter blend happens every year at this time.
Come back in 6 months and the "big bad oil conglomerates" will be "fleecing us all" again.

Chevy Volt is a serial hybrid. It does not run on gas. The gasoline motor charges the batteries which operate the propulsion motor(s) .

Maine is .25/kWh for grid electricity, if it was .09 I probably wouldn’t have bothered with the PV solar although there is some sense of satisfaction in producing your own electricity, like harvesting your own firewood.

I probably worded that wrong , I said “ it has a gas engine that keeps you going” . Which it does by the batteries .
It runs just enough to keep you going . It does not charge the batteries per se to fully 100% .
Using the gas motor to charge the batteries is cost prohibitive. Regenerative braking will charge the batteries tho .

Yep , you’re right . Also , if price of a barrel get to low some of the US producers will stop pumping .
Cousin works in Wyoming for an oil company that does this periodically

Can you get one in 4 wheel drive? And yes they are way overpriced for what they are. A roller skate with no practical benefit in life. I carry way too much in a normal days work to fit in one never, one when I’m gone for a week like last week.

Just curious , have you ever drove one ?
At a cost of .03 cents per mile I see no practical benefit to NOT having one . Btw , I claim .55 ( last I knew it was .55) cents per mile when I use it for my business . It’s a tool , the volt is not for everyone.

I’ve drove at one time or another most vehicles in production in the last 30 years all having something to do associated with my job. You don’t get the fact I’m 6’4” to begin with. I like to be able to stretch out and not feel like my azz is dragging on the pavement. I especially like to get out of said vehicle and not feeling like I’m getting out of a Vienna sausage can. I live in the northern half of Maine and have to cover all of the state of Maine and northern New Hampshire every day in all weather conditions and time is money. On average I’d say I put 300 miles a day on. Some days 100. Some days 600. I do like all my vehicles to have 4 WD. I own enough toys I know for a fact that thing ain’t going to tow so there’s another no f’ing way am I interested. And I get paid mileage plus I can write it off at the end of the year the way I get paid. So I make money, have what I want, have multiple vehicles, can get gas and diesel easily, don’t have to worry about batteries or what not. I especially don’t like someone driving their opinion down anyone else’s throats. If what you got makes you happy great, I don’t give 2 chits. That’s how the world goes round and round. I don’t need to hear anyone telling me to buy anything I don’t want and can’t do what I require out of it.
