Those marsh marigolds are a fun bit of spring color. Your lupines are so big already.

 

Habaneros are a tad over my heat tolerance threshold. That said I started some this year and ended up with 6 plants. Got a bunch of jalapenos of varying colors. Also started some 'no heat' habaneros but the germination rate was poor and only have two. Hoping they actually have no heat and taste like habs.


Also had a gala apple the other day with sprouting seeds in it. Planted them in a small pot and three are doing well. No way to know what kind of apple they'll yield, possibly sterile too, but ya never know. Fun project with low expectations.

 

The tomato and pepper starts that I ordered in March came in on May 3 (way earlier than I was hoping for).





Since our frost free date is the end of May, and the Destructo Duo started trying to eat them about 5 seconds after I opened the packages to water them, they went out into the garage. Yesterday I potted them up for holding until I can put them outside. They still ended up back in the garage, but they should at least be a bit happier.

 

Planted the tomatoes and peppers Sunday. Also grabbed a coupe of basil plants to add in.



Not early as exciting as most of y'allses bigger gardens, but plenty for just me.

 

One good thing about being high 40s and raining, radishes and lettuce are thriving. I swear they exploded since Friday.

 

My "Tumbling Tom" tomato... do you think it will take a tumble?

 

I hope not. Those tomatoes can tumble right onto a cutting board!

 

Looks like it will start cascading down. Those are some nice, healthy looking tomato plants!

 

It's always a race to get ripe tomatoes before diseases take over. I'm trying to beat the system this year by growing all cherries.

 

Ugh. Something ate my mater plants (and one of the 9 pepper plants) first week after putting them in the ground.
Something got the one mater while on the front porch week before.

 

Keep us up to date with the apple trees, billb! Thats kinda cool.

 

Garden update!
Lots of weeds in between the beds but at least everything is in the dirt.



Nearest: winter squash/corn (but I don't think the corn is growing)
Left: carrots, radishes
Right: cuces, shard, cabbage
Top: nightshades- Casper and pink toung eggplant, kelloggs breakfast, dark galaxy, and Japanese black tomatoes, and then some various peppers - dirkson and Wisconsin lakes among others. And then a big pile of garlic that I left in from last year. Garlic pesto time soon!

 

My FIL gave my son ghost pepper plant. Thankfully my son knows hot they are. He hopes to dry them and add them to a vension jerky recipe.

I picked up some cucumber plants , watermelon, a beef tomato plant. Son and I are in competition for growing tomatos and cucumbers.

 

Those ghost peppers will go far in any recipe. A little slice here or there is all it takes. I still have a bunch frozen from last year I’ve been slowly picking away at.

 

First "harvest" of the year!

 

I love tomato growing competitions. I always grow "neighbor-beater" tomatoes.

 

Looking good... got to love radishes for the fast turnaround time. I usually plant some in the spring and fall.

 

We have been getting scattered showers and bright sunlight for the last week. My garden is doing fine but everything else is exploding with growth. It is un-real.

 

Early girls, Siberian, and hillbillies. Eggplant, squash, and cucumbers on this side.
