I went through all this back in 16. Years worth of different types of buildings were considered.. insulated pole with workshop inside, stick built, quonset hut type (how to insulate/wire). I had the site prepped and compacted and then over wintered maybe 4 or 5 years before pad was poured. Ended lup talking to the right contractor and got a great deal on a stick built. Never looked back. I had no intentions of insulating/finishing interior of garage but the cost of doing it was low enough to justify it. Maybe now you don't want insulation in it, but the workshop with the wood stove sure makes a nice escape during the cold months. This past summer, I added a "tool" to the workshop and also had a lean-to built along the entire side of the garage and closed it off with fence panels. Good luck and keep us posted.
Summing up the best value option since SWMBO does not want to do any more construction. Experienced opinions. Pre manufactured, or stick built for a ~ 24x 30 garage with attic storage, uninsulated ? Pole is out.
i used panels like this to build my shop, well insulated The company that makes them here locally also does houses with this stuff
SIP panels are nice for an insulated home. Expensive for a simple uninsulated garage. She will not accept a metal structure.
Go to Lowe's or home depot contractors desk order shop you want... Comes on trailer truck in panels fast easy cheap.. Boss did 30 by 40 upstairs office under 24k w/o concrete costs..
DBH Haven't you called a local construction company or local carpenter yet? C'mon man, get moving! They may even be booked for summer work already by this point in time. At least you would get a ball park or even an exact price quote on a stick built garage.
YES SIR MR. D. We're MOVING, MOVING. Keep your panties on. Done BTW...got ball parks. Have to get fill and site packed when the ice and snow leave. Our heavy equipment friend won't fill with frost in the ground. That 3 car 30x34 garage looks almost too good to be real at that price. I'm a kind of suspicious $#@&*. "I'll love you in the morning dear." Never OSB in any of my construction.
Be nice now, good things take time! I worked in a business that sold coral for aquariums and it is a long delicate process for them. I installed HVAC and ducting for them and as I remember, the priority was de-humidification.
Me is one of those security conscious types....no social media, no cell GPS tracker, no selfie stupidity, no rank/MOS, and no personal info online. The "claim" is real Smokey. So place that "claim" ( ye who doubt ) in the MDI/Blue Hill-Deer Isle area. That do it ? Nobody in any part of real Maine uses "ye". BTW: none of the contractors here would use OSB Yooper. Get water on the stuff it decomposes into mush. There are better products for sheathing.
Hey you's not really Downeast OM, those places are all west of down east Maine say Eastport or Perry or Lubec. And since I used ye you are wrong on that so far you got the OSB part correct. Next. Oh your wonky birth date was removed by Scotty Overkill after I pointed out your post on Facecord PMs are faster as not everyone gets alerts for facecord posts.
Oh btw DBH, I've been online since before there were microcomputers. I've probably forgotten more about computers and software than most people on here will ever know about the systems.
OSB Works well since it is all covered and no chance of water getting to it. I used it for the interior walls also, but then, I do not wash vehicles inside the garage so again, safe from the moisture there.
Only took four years for me to get my orders from the war department after we built our house. Hal, a dear past older friend from work, advised me to go no less than 30’ deep. So if I have a bench at the end “ I won’t be bumping my azz on the front the vehicles”. I refer to that extra 4 feet as the Hal memorial. It was spot on! I also went 12 pitch, for two reasons. First it matched the house. Second I got that much more storage upstairs. And a bench there too! And I went 26 wide. Glad i did and wish I went more for the luxury of it. But 26 is good. How else can I spend your money? Wanna buy a saw?
