One thing you can do is start to monitor temps in various places. I am always monitoring my flue (by way of probe, not a magnetic stove gauge), plenum, return air and air being reclaimed temps. With my current return air setup I'm seeing return air temps between 80°-89° pretty much all the time, depending where I am in the burn. I am injecting 110°-120° air off the face of my furnace into 70ish air being pulled off the basement ceiling. This makes a big difference.

First thing is first though, get your manometer installed and draft dialed in.

Dale sent me a diagram about moving the low-limit thermometer up on the plenum. This is going to be necessary as my plenum is 35 inches tall.

From your picture it looks like your low-limit thermometer is located on the front of the bonnet. If so, how did you go about choosing that location?

I actually have two of them. The one you see on the front is where I originally put it but then added one to the very top of the plenum, pretty much right over the top center of the furnace. The one on the front is now where I have a much higher temp one which acts as my emergency switch to power a different winding on the blower in case the variable speed controller ever craps out.

I sure did. Moving the low-limit thermometer up to the front of the plenum made a huge difference. I also traded my Dad for some wood cut to 20 inches. Those two things greatly increased the burn times. Overall, I am very satisfied with the performance. Thanks to you and JRHAWK9 for your suggestions!

To be honest I didn't even hook the Tstat up last year...just left it run on low...might try it this year, just to see if I like it.
