Electric dog fence was relocated to keep beasts out of front yard. Lots of grading in the front yard followed by core aeration. Yesterday was spreading 10 yards of loam, 80 lbs of seed and 60 lbs of fertilizer. Then rolling. I really hope this works. Will set up sprinklers and put the minions to work keeping it wet. Fertilizer is starter but contains crabgrass/ dandelion preventer.
This is one of my projects, but it's our backyard that needs to be rescued. When we bought the house from my parents, I took the families backhoe and removed the boulders out of our backyard and rolled them up the hill. Too big to pick up. My mistake at the time was not rolling them to the edge of the property. They ended up becoming part of a large debris pile over the years. Now I'll need to get into that pile and remove what I can and split up those boulders to more manageable sizes to moved. I no longer have access to the family backhoe. Anyhow, I made the mistake of putting down turf. Which I would never do again. Turf requires special upkeep in my opinion that I didn't do. Further back in the yard, I planted the seed when I recovered that area, and that area is plush compared to the turf. When we do it over, I'm going to remove the existing grass and bring in several yards of the local Merner's compost and level out some valleys and provide a richer base soil. Once I seed it, I'll do what I did with the far back, and I should get much better results. Unfortunately, I wanted to do this in the spring, but it's going to have to wait for the fall or most likely next spring. The end result will be well worth the work. Jason from RI
Very neat looking yard. I'm impressed. You have got to be pleased with the results of your hard work.
Thank you kindly. I think in a few years I will be pleased. For now, it's progress and I hope I can keep it kind of green during summer and thicken the lawn over fall and next spring. Baby steps.
