That new system coming in will put up some record temps, I just read that parts of Ohio could have wind chill readings of -50 to -60, ouch!

    From TWC.

With strong low pressure in Quebec and high pressure centered over the Plains, this bitter cold air will be accompanied by brisk west to northwest winds from 15-25 mph, sending wind chills into the -50s or even -60s in some areas from Ohio to North Dakota. Any exposed skin would suffer frostbite in 5-10 minutes in these conditions!

We just got the Beta Ideal Steel stove top up to 620 on this last big load, hottest stove top temps so far since I installed it. Hot spot in front of stove above door at 720. Outside temp is 4 but everyone is complaining its too hot in here now (75). I've got a fan blowing towards the stove room from the back room on the first floor to heat the back room up but also to cool off the rest of the first floor. Natural gas furnace has been off all day. This stove is cranking out a tremendous amount of heat.

We're expecting coldest temps here in over twenty years on Monday and Tuesday.

Perfect time for the new stove. This next few days will give it a good test.
Feed it the good stuff & keep it cranking. :)

Was outside today playing around in the balmy 31° weather.

Turn on the news & they sound in the panic mode o_O
Real Cold air is hitting the northern US
& you stay home & hunker down,
if you got outside your gonna freeze to death .

Then one channel shows kids, no school today, outside sledding at 15° in 20 mph winds & having fun.

I have several stove loads of locust set aside to try out with a high burn during next weeks coldest temps. We haven't seen a forecast for temps like this in over twenty years.

Water pipes are the biggest issue when getting below zero.
Even here with the 8" frost valves on the outside facets, covering them is a good idea.
    Even a rag helps.
Cold can conduct thru the metal & freeze & bust the pipe
in the wall, sometimes you don't know until you turn on the facet come spring.

Air leaks around the footer where a water pipe is close, another bad spot.

These temps make plumbers lots of money !
Especially when you havent' had them around for a while

You forget to remove the garden hoses, close up under house air vents , outside pet water freezes etc .....

A rare Mass temp, -4 this morn. Had a high of 12 yesterday and went through a half ring of oak to keep up. I think the Oslo wanted to kick me in the shin the next time I came close to it

It's woodstove weather! Not many woodstove folks complain about how many extra splits they burned today because it was -5 outdoors, whereas the thermostat folks walking the halls at 62 with 2 sweaters on worry about the end of the month.
As long as the Oslo takes what I feed it I can't complain

It's in the mid 20's here, we'll get two days of this then jump right back into the chitter again come Monday.

The good news is we'll get warmer again for mid week so we'll bring Cherry in tomorrow.

    33° , :)

    Forecast for 34° tomorrow too.

You all can keep that cold down there for a while,
I'm enjoying this balmy weather cycle.

Watching the satellite pic of the weather moving North thru here pushing the cold air East & South
    Was -38°f in Fairbanks now it's 12°f.
Lots of arctic air still headed your way.

Sat pic right now showing the northerly leading fist pushing toward the N Pole.
This weather is really moving north fast. That middle cloud cover with the leading edge over southern AK is moving N fast
Forcing the sub zero arctic air East & south thru Canada
Link here, takes about 6 seconds to load up to view the loop:
