Yes and that happens regularly when the fronts are going on by. Climatologically we should average around freezing for a high but for there to be an average there must be both above and below temperatures. Very few days turn out to be average. Something a lot of folks don't seem to understand. You'll note that for today the actual range is 80°F. That is a hell of a range. In fact in a few more weeks we should start to see those average temperatures go up, but I wouldn't count on it.

I've seen them go the other way, but what would an old fart like me know.

Ayuh that supposedly is me, however KPWM isn't a valid climate recording station it is an aviation runway station and is one snow band and temperature zone closer to the coast then me in fact one end of the runway is on the coast.

    Funny that, yes, no?

If you want to have some fun you watch an outfit like the weather channel's weather.com during the current day they post when the high temperature for the day occurred and what it was. You save that information via a screen shot then the next day you ask weather.com for yesterdays information the high isn't the same and the time is different then you go look at Portland's data and you discover the high and lows match.

Well you just got temperatures from two different stations and one is miles away from Standish, as near as I can figure the second figure is coming from another runway system as well.

BTW, weather.com has been made aware of this situation when or if they fix it I haven't a clue.

Then you go to weatherunderground or a degree day site and look at all of the temperature recording systems that are online and you find several that are a lot closer than KPWM and they disagree with KPWM and frequently with each other.

43 degrees tonight with a possible snowstorm coming up the east coast, if we get hit it will start on Friday from the report I just watched.

Dennis has ice everywhere with snow & cold on the way.

Give me 20 to 25° all winter,
I don't like the freeze & thaw cycles, makes a mess.

This is a PITA here in the Northeast. Get's below freezing at night and then warms to a crazy 50s during the day. I get the stove going in the morning and it's too hot in the afternoon, it's shoulder season in January.

Insert old man grumble grumble here.

    Some stoves have them.

Be nice to have a house thermostat control the air on the stove.
Would be slow reacting though. May get big temperature swings.
Has been nice here for heating with the wood stove.
Mid to high 20s daytime , teens at night. Pretty steady temps & 1 full load per day.
