I always check the DC area for free wood and even that has dried up. You can get poplar or small quantities of top notch stuff but even last year it was like a take your pick of 5 white oak trees cut into rounds or 6 red oaks on the curb. I haven't seen anything like that this year. In my immediate area forget it. People want you to pay them to take down a standing dead leaning over the house but you can have the wood..
Yup it's exactly like that here , if you don't jump on it right away fuggetaboutit....I have been late to the party a couple times and anymore if it's not within 20 minutes of the house it ain't happenin'. Look up free firewood in York and see some of the outrageous stuff they try to pass off. Then again free is free one man's treasure is another man's trash.
