Wow, great score! What a great friend to have. I'm sure he feels the same way. I guess the staining must have been from that special edition steel Miller Lite can that was stuck in the tree.
It’s looks like nice straight oak. Hopefully it pops right open with the axe. My splitter won’t do vertical either. I’d rather swing my axe than bend over to make cuts with the saw. It looks more impressive to my wife! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Dave, I think that wood might be too much work for you. Just bring it up to your land and I'll do you a favor and get rid of it for you. Hey, it's the least I can do.
I've done a couple small favors for him in the past, But him dumping it here saves him on land fill fees and trying to process it and sell it. It's more profitable in this instance to give it away, especially when he was only a couple blocks away.
Then you perhaps need a sledge and a couple good wedges! Will save a lot on that saw and even the gas it takes plus you won't have to sharpen as often.
WeldrDave Maybe you need to have Midwinter down there to show you how to split up those bigguns with a wedge and sledge
If it wont pop right away with a sledge n wedge...just cut into it 3-4 inches deep with the saw, then drive the wedge in...this works well on stubborn rounds and it saves wear n tear on the saw, fuel, wood, time, effort, etc. And you don't have to cut the whole way across the round either, just a few inches to get the wedge in...that allows you to find a nice spot that looks like it is free of metal too...
If you throw a mini GTG In the next couple weeks and pay my tolls and gas from CT, I would be happy to split it with my Fiskars for you! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
.... Oh boy I see whats happening here...... Maybe I'll just have another Beer and look at it for a while.
Today was supposed to be Oak Day for me, but it's too breezy for the climbers. Not sure if my friend is just having it topped, or the whole trunk taken down. It may be a matter of a few hundred bucks.
