This unit requires weights that I don't have - I found a replacement online and pressure tested it against some calibrated equipment at work, the gage is "accurate" for it's purpose... I just worry about the pitting in the base..sucker would turn itself over off the turkey burner -if it ever let go, as it would never be used in the house
Yes, steam can be instantaneously powerful. Woodwidow and myself have a wood boiler heat system with an open-to-atmosphere expansion tank with 1,000 gallons of heat storage. I had initially thought of going pressurized until the boiler inspector asked me if 300,000 - 1,000 gallon tanks would fit in our basement which would happen if a leak occurred at 245 degrees at 30 psi.
I'm a licensed Class A boiler operator(fireman in one state) in a few northeast states...yes steam will expand ~3400 times it's volume. I've been near a 1200psi steam drum door letting go - not a fun experience
