Aren't the guests essentially illegal immigrants?

Cloudflare is pretty good at bot fighting if things are configured well, but there is always some manual intervention needed to fight the bots. This involves tailing server logs and looking for bots manually, ip lookups and manual bans, etc.

I did a little checking on the forum itself for software versions and whatnot. It is using PHP 5.5.9 which was EOL and no longer receiving updates or patches on July 21 2016. That will also mean that the forum software itself is likely very date,. as is the environment it runs in. PHP 5.5 is 3-4 x slower than current versions and quite insecure. It uses an old engine which struggles with load, these forums are large and would be pretty easy to bog down on such and old stack.

Time to port the forums like a saw and get them rippin.

If all the bots were eliminated from every site how many of those AI data centers would be idle?

I think you're right in that the problem isn't unique to FHC. But "other sites" most likely have taken measures to prevent such issues. Other sites I visit, specifically vehicle owner forums, let you view and search without becoming a member with no problems.

This is the only site I have experienced issues with......when I began noticing the slow down issues here, I originally suspected my laptop. Nope, just here.

If the software (or whatever it is) has not received updates or support since 2016 as Nord has suggested, maybe it is indeed the culprit!

Or.....maybe limit the number of guests?

Or.....maybe limit the amount of time for each guest?

Or.....maybe lessen the features available to be used as a guest?

Or.....maybe find out just where these "guests" originate from?

Does this site gather info from the "guests"? Seems like the majority of sites expect you to agree to cookies of some degree nowadays.

I still find it hard to believe that there are over 700 guests viewing at any given time! :hair:

I've got an idea for the swag shop!

How's about a red ball cap with the slogan "MAKE FHC GREAT AGAIN" OK, maybe it's not original, but......:D

I noticed at the start of the Iran crisis that the daily amount of spam I get dropped about 75% but within a week or two it picked back up again.

    Thanks Nord.

I wanted to post a picture off my phone this morning. Using Chrome, I've tried several times but cannot make a connection to the forum with it. Frustrating.

Like myself, I'm sure many FHC'ers were guests before becoming members. No guests = no new members.

It's my understanding that the web code for FHC takes advantage of things in the underlying platform that aren't there with more current platforms. What specifically, I do not know.

I believe there's web code needing to change to run on newer platforms.

The person who managed the site for a number of years, is no longer an active member, is also my understanding.

If the site can't handle the current members we don't need more bogging things down.
