I'll check to see what they got. Can't believe I've never heard of them. It would be awesome if I could get away with a cheap bush hog rental. I didn't realize they could take down stuff in the 8-9" range
That brush hog is a beast. Not all have that capability. Diamond should have a dealer out there. look for the dealers on the skidsteer or the attachment. Even for Vermeer forestry equipment. Your in the right part of the state for it. my experience has been they’ll all rent the equipment.
Don’t expect to get it that cheap. I’d expect $1500 per day and $3500ish for a week ball park. I paid $97/hr on the hour meter. I got it from the same guy I’d be getting the wood from in my “small score” thread. He’s arranged to install our septic field as well. My daughter is also familiar to them and a local school teacher with their kids. so I’m sure there’s some “benefits” going around.
I just read the small score thread. That's crazy!.. all I can do is price it out both ways. There's a couple guys that do forestry mulching around here so I'll have them quote it out and I'll check around about a higher capacity skid steer bush hog rental like that diamond.
I found an old 2 horse trailer and used that as the shed for 2 piggies. Made moving them a breeze. If you spend enough time with them they follow you wherever you go. Had a 700+ lb boar who was better than my dog at staying close to me un-penned. They do a good job clearing stuff out, but still need to go in with equipment to smooth it out after. Plus you can eat them, sell them, use them to make more piggies
What did you use for a fence? Wife mentioned she was interested in having pigs on the property next year.
As everything was very temporary, fence was mostly T-post and hog panel + a single strand of electric down low to the ground on the inside. Had some no-climb horse fence and just the crap welded wire fence pens as well.
Where did you rent that tracked loader and better brush hog from? I need to do the same to open up my hunting land trails. 280 a day for that is totally worth it. Was that with the trailer or was that yours? Forestry mulcher is a whole bigger thing. If it's over 5" or so it's getting cut with a chainsaw for firewood anyway.
I got it from the guy who’s installing our septic system… it’s one of those “my daughters sisters brothers cousins nephews boyfriend grandmas nieces kids” circle. my daughter is their kids teachers. My daughters in-laws family has been family friends sharing the holidays all going back to grand parents. The guy we bought our land from works for him. There’s so many small rural back town connections my head spins. that diamond brushhog was chewing through 10” trees like it was nothing too. I was impressed by it immensely. trailer, attachment, and machine were included in the whole affair.
It's forestry mulching day. Shopped it out several different ways with several different people. Found a guy that would do it 1300 a day... two days max. He got here this morning and he thinks he can do it in a day because it's really just the underbrush and vines. Gonna be a lot of firewood! Pictures to follow!
I have run one of the Fecons before. I would do it as a career if I thought my area could facilitate. Can't see the folks around here lining up to pay for it. High volitility market from what I've read, meaning someone will cut your legs out just to lose money on jobs. Dangit.
looking forward to seeing the results. seems I’m very blessed with the contacts I’ve got and access to certain machines.
